Global Product & Launch Strategy (GPLS) is Takeda's global commercial strategy organization focused on fueling the growth of Takeda by leading global product strategy and lifecycle management for our inline growth portfolio, and driving commercialization strategy and launch preparation for development programs in our innovative, highly differentiated product pipeline.
Takeda recently announced an agreement with Nimbus Therapeutics to acquire Nimbus's oral, selective allosteric tyrosine kinase 2 (TYK2) inhibitor, which is being evaluated in patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. Takeda plans to investigate it for the treatment of IBD and other autoimmune diseases.
The Product Strategy Lead – TAK-279 (TYK2) will play a critical role in ensuring the successful development and commercialization of this high-priority program for Takeda as the primary global commercial leader of this program. Components of the role include:
Product / asset strategy champion: accountable for developing, executing, and continually refining / refreshing the comprehensive, cross-functional asset strategy including launch strategy and lifecycle plan for TAK-279. Accountable for developing launch strategy and launch tools to support product launch globally, with an emphasis on major markets.
Global Product Team (GPT) leadership: this role serves as the primary commercial leader on the GPT and is a critical partner to the Global Product Leader (GPL). The GPT is at the core of Takeda's operating model, serving as the primary cross-functional unit responsible for leading the product's development and commercialization throughout the product lifecycle.
Commercial / brand leadership: oversee the commercial sub-team of the Global Program Team (GPT) including development of the overall product and launch strategy, and execution of key commercial initiatives, integrating global pricing and access, health economics, market insights, patient solutions, and regional commercial perspectives.
Regional / LOC level collaboration: work closely with the Regions and strategic LOCs to establish and define a clear value proposition for the product that maximizes the benefit to patients, payers, prescribers, providers, and policymakers and therefore the portfolio's value through the development of the molecule strategy and ensure the aligned implementation across the functions through effective communication, influencing, and timely identification of issues to make constructive solutions possible.
Team Leadership: provide direct managerial oversight of Global Commercial Lead(s) and New Product Lead(s) for TAK-279 across multiple indications, ensuring their strong professional development and performance. In addition, provide indirect management and leadership to relevant team members supporting TAK-279 cross-functionally including Global Pricing and Access, Global Health Economics, Global Insights and Analytics, Communications, and Patient Advocacy.
Develop a comprehensive commercial strategy, launch strategy and lifecycle strategy for TAK-279 incorporating aspects of all relevant commercial functions and across all prioritized indications. Ensure successful launch planning for the asset on a global level with the support of the entire Global Program Team (GPT) as well as on the regional / LOC level in collaboration with the regions and strategic LOCs. Gain endorsement of product strategy and launch plans from the Commercialization & Launch Committee (CLC), incorporating strategic input from CLC.
Ensure successful commercialization of TAK-279 through strong leadership and alignment of key global functions in support of the TAK-279 launch plan, including Commercial, Clinical Development, Global Medical Affairs, Global Regulatory Affairs, Global Manufacturing and Supply, and other functions as needed. Translate the global product strategies, plans and budget recommendations into concrete, aligned deliverables collaboratively developed with regional teams: tools, programs, activities across multiple functions.
Establish and develop a clear value proposition for the product that maximizes the benefit to patients, payers, prescribers, providers, and policymakers and therefore the portfolio's value through the molecule strategy and evidence generation plan; ensure execution of this plan is aligned and delivered with coordination across the cross-functional program team.
Work closely with Global Pricing and Market Access, Global Medical Affairs and Global Economics and Outcomes Research teams to enable the development of robust payer and health system value propositions ultimately enabling fast and broad access.
Oversee the commercial sub-team of the TAK-279 Global Program Team (GPT). Ensure product strategies are translated into clear goals and objectives at the GPT and commercial sub-team levels.
Effectively engage with regional / strategic LOC stakeholders to ensure a successful launch and commercialization of TAK-279 across the regions and strategic LOCs. Bring the voice of the internal and external customers to ensure the value of TAK-279 is well defined and understood.
Build and lead the global commercial team supporting TAK-279 launch preparation including a focused team of global commercial lead(s), global brand lead(s), and new product lead(s) to drive the development and evaluation of the overall product strategy, indication strategies, and launch plans. In addition, contribute to building and providing matrix leadership across the commercial sub-team functions contributing to TAK-279 commercialization. Manage individual performance (objective setting, evaluation, and feedback) of both direct reports (Global Commercial and Global Brand Lead) and cross-functional GPT / commercial sub-team members. Identify issues and proactively address them with functional supervisor to enable uninterrupted support. Create a high performing team culture that inspires purpose driven performance and is aligned to Takeda's values and P-T-R-B principles.
Serve as an overall leader and role model within the Global Product and Launch Strategy organization, including serving as a member of the GPLS GI Leadership Team and contributing to various cross-program activities and initiatives across GPLS, such as best practice sharing, mentoring etc.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required; MS/BS in science or business preferred; Advanced degree a plus (MBA, MSc, PhD)
15+ years of pharmaceutical/biotech industry including experience in commercial roles ideally across 2-3 markets. Experience with both pipeline and marketed products is desired, and experience working in a global commercial organization is a plus.
Knowledge of and experience in relevant markets including dermatology, rheumatology, and gastroenterology is desirable
International travel to internal meetings and external events is required
Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise
Track record of strong strategic thinking and business acumen, coupled with effective implementation.
Agility to operate in a global environment with a demonstrated knowledge of key markets, in particular US, EUCAN, Japan, China and other selected GEM (Asia Pacific, LATAM) markets.
Experience in preparing assets for commercialization as well as a strong commercial experience in product launches, ideally on a global strategic level and country level (2-3 markets desired, at senior level)
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of launching new products into highly competitive specialty therapy areas such as dermatology, rheumatology and/or gastroenterology would be highly desired. US launch experience also a plus.
Experience in working across the whole lifecycle of products (from mid-stage clinical development through commercialization) as well as deep insights into the drug development process, lifecycle management, including clinical development, pricing and market access dynamics, regulatory and technical requirements and effective commercialization
Experience in effectively leading, motivating and inspiring commercial teams operating on a global level; ability to create a strong "followership"
Experience in leading Global Product Teams or other highly cross-functional teams
