Southern Insurance Underwriters is growing! We are looking for an experienced leader to work as a Vice President in our Alpharetta, GA office! We are a Certified Managing General Agency serving independent agents throughout the southeast for over fifty years. Based in Alpharetta, Georgia (and with an office in Lake Mary, FL) we provide access to over 120 markets, spanning: Commercial Property & Casualty, Commercial Transportation, Personal Property, Professional Lines and Standard Lines.
We are seeking someone that can advance strategic planning and execute initiatives for our Accounting team to achieve company goals and objectives. This includes the ability to best utilize all resources (technology and team members) in order to effectively evaluate, prioritize and manage projects that impact the entire Company.- This Individual will have a “hands-on” approach to ensuring the Accounting department meets all goals and deadlines. This includes becoming familiar all aspects of our Company and training and growing the department to acclimate to our future.
- This role works closely with all members of the accounting group to produce monthly, quarterly and annual GAAP processes, including reporting, financial statement prep, G/L coding, income and expense recognition, fixed asset, and investments reporting, etc. They are responsible for maintaining relationships with external contacts (CPA firm, carriers, etc.), and will take the lead on preparing working papers for all reviews and audits.
- This role is also responsible for working with internal contacts (outside of the accounting team) to prepare the annual budget. They will work with the senior leadership team to monitor our progress and provide monthly updates for discussion with other department leadership.
Requirements:
- Must have a Bachelor’s in Accounting with several years of related experience.
- Insurance experience ideal, with an emphasis in non-admitted E & S at the wholesale level. Alternatively, must be someone that has worked in a private company and can understand the wholesale market, surplus lines tax and other regulatory reporting. Must be very experienced with GAAP accounting.
- Should be comfortable using advanced functions of Excel to create ad hoc reporting. Should also be comfortable learning new technology in order to troubleshoot issues that are integral to our Company and be able to make suggestions for efficiencies.
- Must have strong management experience, including hiring, training, and following through with daily management of multiple staff members. Requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ideal profile will be someone that can think strategically, is willing to grow with the Company, and is still capable of working in and understanding the day to day operations. We are seeking someone with appetite to learn and ultimately take on more executive-level functions.
