The doctor assistant is to provide support to the doctor and/or medical department in executing daily tasks and communications with clients. The doctor assistant's role is to provide and maintain excellent client care and service above all other responsibilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive customer service
- Strong communications skills, both written and oral
- Goal oriented
- Ability to organize and prioritize daily, weekly, and monthly tasks
- Ability to plan, organize and effectively present ideas and concepts
- Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once, and deal with high levels of stress in an environment of changing priorities
- Intermediate math skills
- Computer literate with the ability and willingness to learn, master, and maneuver new technology as dictated by the business needs. Knowledge of EzyVet and Smartboards is a plus!
- Must be able to interact with all levels of staffing in a professional manner
- Basic knowledge of CA State Veterinary Law re: Client – Patient – Veterinarian Relationship
This position is a 4/10-hour or 3/12-hour workweek. We are open on weekends and most holidays. We offer a generous weekend differential.

Compensation: $25-$30 per hour

Education and Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of college coursework, Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Customer service-oriented work experience of at least 5 years
- Veterinary Experience Required, with a preference of at least 5 years
- Proven track record for punctuality, ability to perform under pressure, increased responsibilities over time, willingness to learn and take on new or challenging tasks
Physical Requirements
- Dependable attendance required
- Must be willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure conditions
- This position requires the ability to sit, walk, type, and reach constantly during a minimum 10-hour day
- Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records, recognize people, and understand written directions
- Ability to speak and hear sufficiently to understand, and give information in person and over the telephone
- Fine motor skills adequate for utilizing hospital equipment such as 10-key, computer keyboard, etc.
