Primary purpose and function of the Unit Manager is to aide the Director of Nursing (DON) in organizing, developing and directing the overall operation of our Nursing Department.

As the Unit Manager, you must ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times by all nursing staff, in accordance with all current federal, state and local guidelines and regulations that govern our facility while giving equal importance to the high standards of care set forth by Magnolia Square and it's Administrator.

Must have a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license and a current CPR certification.

Duties and Responsibilities of Unit Manager / RN, include but not limited to:

  • Assume DON services in the absence or unavailability of the DON
  • Perform administrative duties such as Admitting, discharging, transferring residents, completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting as necessary and as instructed.
  • Interpret the department's policies and procedures to personnel, patients, visitors, and government agencies.
  • Paperwork related to procedures that govern the day-to-day functions
  • Ensuring that personnel comply with policies and procedures
  • Written and Oral Reports to the DON and Administrator
  • Assist in developing methods for coordinating nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of each resident's total regime of care
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections
  • Participate in On-Call rotation

Personnel Functions

  • Determine the staffing needs to meet optimal quality care
  • Staffing a sufficient number of licensed personnel
  • Develop work assignments
  • Ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments; Monitor job performance
  • Schedule regular weekly meetings with staff; addressing all of their needs and assisting with correcting any problem areas
  • Taking part in the interview process with prospective employees
  • Create and maintain a warm, positive atmosphere and a calm environment
  • Executing employment terminations and suspensions when needed
  • Maintain a good working rapport with all departments within the facility which promotes meeting and exceeding the needs of each resident
  • Staff Development Functions; Conducting In-services, Upholding OSHA guidelines
  • Planning and adhering to department budget
