Job description
- Assess existing trade and customs compliance activities and identify improvements and efficiencies, as applicable
- Guide the standardization and simplification of trade and customs processes
- Embed a strong control framework and clear division of roles and responsibilities to manage trade and customs compliance risk
- Work with business unit and functional leadership teams to identify and implement opportunities for indirect tax efficiencies, working capital improvements, and other global trade savings
- Maintain knowledge of current import and export regulations and pending legislation; plan and implement changes to processes, as required, to address risks and respond to regulatory changes
- Develop and implement global trade compliance training program, policies, and procedures
- Develop and provide training to employees on relevant trade compliance laws, regulations, and Company policies
- Maintain a recordkeeping program in compliance with applicable laws
- Oversee the work of external advisors when needed, while effectively managing external spend
- Oversee the consolidation and ongoing evaluation of freight forwarder/broker arrangements, as appropriate
- Coordinate and approve international shipments in accordance with applicable law
- Lead restricted and denied party screening activities, evaluations, and remediation
- Perform and oversee internal and external assessments; establish and maintain an effective audit program to ensure compliance with Company trade and customs policies
- Perform data analysis and develop, generate, and maintain key performance indicators that measure success of and opportunities for the Company trade and customs program
- Provide support to functions and business units on issues related to import and export compliance
- Partner with Tax, Treasury, Insurance, and other functional teams, as necessary, related to the trade and customs compliance program
- Assist internal stakeholders in understanding the risks and consequences of trade and customs compliance obligations
- Collaborate with the Chief Compliance & Regulatory Officer, Compliance Director, and Compliance Manager on all interactions with the U.S. CBP, Treasury, BIS, and other regulators
- Knowledge of the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), U.K. Bribery Act (UKBA), and other applicable anti-corruption laws and regulations; partner with the Compliance Department Leadership and other key stakeholders on the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of an anti-corruption compliance program (inclusive of developing training, policies, and procedures)
- Prepare and submit export license applications and classifications, as required
- Provide expertise and technical input on M&A transactions, as required
- Act as account owner for U.S. CBP ACE system
- Submit applications for export license and ECCN determinations
Requirements for the role include:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum of five (5) yeas of experience in corporate trade and customs compliance role
- U.S. Customs Broker License a plus
- Experience understanding EAR (Export Administration Regulations) and ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations), export controls and OFAC sanctions matters
- Experience evaluating and determining HTS codes for products and technology
- Knowledge of trade and customs compliance processes, procedures, and work instructions relative to international and U.S. government authorities (e.g., FDA, USDA, APHIS, DEA)
- Working knowledge of export/import documentation (e.g., commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, electronic export information (EEI) filings, air waybills)
- Self-starter with strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Detail oriented and experience interacting with all levels of an organization
- Ability to be an independent contributor, as well as work within a team environment
- Collaborative, have a continuous improvement mindset, and strong business acumen
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build partnerships across functions, levels, and departments
