The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty appointment at a rank commensurate with the applicant’s experience (i.e. at the assistant, associate, or full professor level).
The Department is situated in a state-of-the-art 82,000 square foot facility dedicated to Biomedical Engineering research and teaching on the Busch Campus in Piscataway, NJ, which provides abundant opportunities for collaborative work across Rutgers, including:
- Rutgers Biomedical Health Sciences (RBHS), including the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and affiliated Institutes, such as the Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the Rutgers Brain Heath Institute, the Rutgers Global Health Institute, the Rutgers Child Health Institute, and the Rutgers Institute for Translational Science and Medicine
- The Rutgers Institute for Quantitative Biomedicine
- The Rutgers University Cell & DNA Repository (RU-CDR)
- The New Jersey Advanced Manufacturing Institute
Research interest and expertise in all areas of biomedical and bioengineering will be considered. Expertise can be demonstrated through peer reviewed publications, books and book chapters, presentations at national and international meetings, successful grant and fellowship applications, and/or other traditional measures of scholarly activity, and will be confirmed through the references provided by the candidate. A specific area of focus is engineering of cell therapies, including biomanufacturing and immunoengineering. Candidates are also sought with research expertise in computational bioengineering, where computational tools, models, simulations, and machine learning are applied to problems in imaging and image analysis, biosensors, systems biology, cellular engineering, neuroengineering, synthetic biology, regenerative medicine, biomechanics and rehabilitation, and medical device design. Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related discipline by employment start date. The successful applicant is expected to teach courses in engineering at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to develop and maintain a research program leading to national and international recognition, while demonstrating excellent mentoring, communication, and leadership traits. COVID-19 Immunization Requirement
Under Policy 60.1.35, Rutgers University requires all prospective employees to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated and have received a booster (where eligible) against COVID-19 prior to commencement of employment, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption. Prospective employees who are not eligible for a booster at the time of an offer of employment must provide proof they have received a booster within two weeks (14 calendar days) of eligibility. Based on current guidance, individuals are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after receiving the final dose of any COVID-19 vaccine authorized or approved for use in the United States by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Eligibility for a booster against COVID-19 varies and is explained on the University’s web site located at https://coronavirus.rutgers.edu/covid-19-vaccine. Failure to provide proof of primary vaccination and booster will result in rescission of a prospective employee’s offer of employment and/or disciplinary action up to and including termination.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Applicants are expected to have a doctoral degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related discipline. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of scholarly productivity and external research support, as well as excellent investigative, communication, and leadership skills. The candidate is expected to maintain their outstanding research and develop teaching and training programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
