Job Summary:

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the project management and business services fields as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. AIS has an established history of contributing to the success of our customer’s mission.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, TN. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratory. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Job Responsibilities:

• The Technical Communications Specialist will support Oak Ridge National Laboratory on an as-needed basis.

• Will report to the Technical Communications Manager and provide technical writing, content creation, and editing services in support of research and other organizations across the lab.

• Responsible for editing, writing, proofreading, and finalizing technical reports, scientific journal articles, promotional materials, funding proposals, manuals, presentations, and other materials that clearly and effectively communicate research findings, technical developments, programmatic thrusts, and other news and information to a wide range of internal and external audiences.

• Develop web content and documents and suggest visual materials in support of scientific and promotional information needs.

• Provide project management and guidance to ensure that publications, promotional materials, and websites are managed effectively through their completion.

• Provide consultation to customers on appropriate formats, including print and electronic, and methods that will most effectively communicate to the intended audience.

Minimum Qualification:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, or a science-related field, plus at least 5 years of experience in technical editing, content creation, and writing for a scientific or technical organization or similar entity.

• Must have excellent Microsoft Word skills and a working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat.

• Experience using LaTeX or PowerPoint is a plus.

• Pre-employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.

• Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.

• This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.
