The Children’s Guild School of Prince George's County is seeking a creative, experienced Music Teacher to join our team of seasoned educators. The Music Teacher will contribute to the emotional development of students by creating an enjoyable learning environment to inspire students’ minds and help them grow in appreciation of music. The successful Music Teacher should be skilled in playing musical instruments, planning concerts for student participation and creating after school clubs.
This position is a 40 hour per week, 10-month per year position requiring some evening meetings and home visits. A music room with adequate storage is provided.
I. Instruction
- Students’ cultural/social differences are understood
- A trusting, secure and confident student/teacher relationship is formed
- Integrated thematic lessons which are congruent with components of the basic school curriculum are provided
- Content and current methods of instructing elementary and secondary vocal and instrumental music are used in a group and individual basis and assemblies
- Classroom management meets the need of the student and the group
- Music resources are passed onto teaching staff
- Music instruction and performance including guest specialists are coordinated for the Guild to instruct or be enjoyed by our students' music
- Materials are ordered, repaired, and replaced in a timely manner
II. Teamwork
- team tasks are clearly delineated and effectively carried out
- external support for unique student situations is sought
- the team embraces the holistic delivery of services
- effective communication with other team members is carried out
- parent and/or significant others are involved as a partner in the student's educational program
III. Documentation & Case Coordination
- documentation related to regular, licensing and funding bodies is
- completed in a thorough and timely manner
- agency-related documentation, such as team meeting minutes,
- progress summaries, IEPs, report card, behavior observations, high risk and abuse reports, correspondence, etc. is completed in a thorough and timely manner
IV. Professional development
- demonstrated understanding of The Children's Guild philosophy
- a mentor is selected and utilized
- the personal staff development plan is executed
- certification and continuing educational requirements are met
- participation in re-enforcement activities such as specials, clubs, etc.
- regular attendance adhering to 8:00 to 4:00 hour working schedule
- participation on committees as needed
- successful completion of the Pre-service Training Program
- successful completion and demonstrated competency with the prescribed behavior management program
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music with teaching certification
- Minimum of 3 credits of coursework in the area of special education
