Job description
The Mechanical Equipment Engineer will:
- Act as the owner’s technical representative in the area of field fabricated tanks including Liquid nitrogen gas tanks. The major objectives of this position are to ensure field fabricated tanks including tanks furnished by the EPC contractor meets project EPC Scope of Work technical specifications and reliability, safety and operability goals.
Ensure that the engineering, procurement and execution of the field fabricated tanks including tanks results in a safe, operable and reliable plant for the Saguaro Energia project.Key Account-abilities
· Overall responsibility for the design, quality, technical content and integrity of field fabricated tanks including tanks.
· Review basic design, detailed engineering and procurement specifications of field fabricated tanks.
· Work with the EPC Contractor during specification, tender, selection, purchase, installation & commissioning of field fabricated tanks to provide technical integrity assurance.
· Ensure field fabricated tanks comply with the project design and operation philosophies established in the design basis.
· Evaluate field fabricated tanks bid packages and technical support for all relevant design data, vendor data and operational information.
· Evaluate requests for deviations or exemptions to the established codes, specifications and project standards.
· Interpret and verify industry standards, guidelines and codes for project deliverables.
· Oversee the EPC Contractor’s engineering to ensure the design criteria are met.
· Review and approve technical submissions by the Contractor.
· Participate in drawing reviews, hazard reviews and plant model reviews.
· Coordinate discipline comments on Contractor submittals in a timely manner.
· Prepare technical reports related to specific design issues.
· Provide leadership in addressing field fabricated tanks design issues with considerations of cost, schedule, and quality.
· Provide input to the identification and mitigation of technical risks.
· Provide the basic operation philosophy and control concept of the field fabricated tanks and support preparation of Operation Procedures and performance test procedures.
· Review and approve commissioning guidelines for field fabricated tanks.
· Review and approve vendor documentation for field fabricated tanks.
· Participate in inspections and testing of field fabricated tanks as required.
· Provide support during construction to ensure site technical queries, non-conformances, concession requests are properly resolved.
· Participate in equipment check-out and commissioning as required.
Experience Needed
· Strong understanding of field fabricated tanks involved in liquefaction facilities including tanks, water tanks, amine tanks, condensate tanks.
· Experience in all aspects of mechanical engineering from conceptual design to engineering, plant startup and troubleshooting
· Experience with commissioning, start-up and performance testing at project sites is a plus.
· Experience with projects in an EPC environment.
· Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office software, and discipline specific software applications
· Skilled in the application of relevant major design codes and standards API, NFPA, etc. specifically NFPA 59A, API 620, API 650
Skills and Attributes
Knowledge, Languages
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, PE preferred
· Minimum of 15 years mechanical engineering experience in oil / gas or petrochemical industry with 5 years of field fabricated tanks experience.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work successfully in cross functional teams.
· Ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people from different professional, cultural and business backgrounds.
· Able to present and discuss complex technical material in a concise and simple yet meaningful manner. Comfortable making presentations to large groups.
· Flexibility in terms of changing priorities, workload and working hours.
· Interdisciplinary work capabilities
· Self-initiating and self-directed worker able to provide leadership to teams when needed.
