Christensen Farms is one of the largest, family-owned pork producers in the United States, marketing approximately 3 million hogs per year. Headquartered in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, the company operates throughout the Midwest with facilities in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois and South Dakota. The company is vertically integrated with a strong presence across the pork value chain - from farm to fork. Christensen Farms is the largest shareholder of Triumph Foods LLC, a producer-owned primary pork processing plant in St. Joseph, Missouri. In turn, Triumph Foods members own 50 percent of Daily's Premium Meats, a specialty pork processor of bacon and other premium pork products. Triumph Foods also holds a 50 percent partnership in Seaboard Triumph Foods, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa, a primary pork processing plant.
Position Overview & Responsibilities: Lead the organization in electrical & control systems design standards. Maintain awareness of existing and emerging technology to introduce appropriate technology to CF to retain our competitiveness in the industry. Partner with external vendors and service providers to communicate future business needs for new product development. Critically review designs, drawings & specifications for compliance with CF standards and expectations for reliable and robust electrical distribution networks. Partner with Operations to specify appropriate controllers and associated hardware to automate animal life safety systems. Lead the organizations electrical safety and qualification program in close partnership with the Safety group. Champion electrical standardization throughout CF network via new builds or farm refurbishments. Provide training and coaching to Asset Department and M&R technicians to improve electrical capability and troubleshooting skills throughout all regions.
Major Areas of Accountability:
Repair/Remodel/New Construction
- Lead electrical design efforts for all major capital projects or programs. Work closely with engineering service providers to provide clear direction on electrical and control systems requirements for new/remodel work.
- Develop electrical and control systems standards and specifications to ensure consistent design approach across regions and CF network of farms. Monitor work on electrical systems and equipment on the interior and exterior of barns, offices, buildings; perform work as instructed on occasional basis
- Assist with electrical & control systems troubleshooting
- Perform work on an occasional basis which may include but not limited to the following: electrical component replacement, troubleshooting of electrical systems
- Work with Construction Coordinator, Site Supervisors to provide oversight and direction to sub-contracted electrical contractors to ensure proper execution and installation of intended layout and design of electrical systems
- Perform electrical review and final inspection on all projects and major repairs as needed
General
- High level of communication with Engineering service providers, Asset Department leadership and sub-contractors
- Must be willing to work a minimum of a 5 day and 40-hour work week with possibility of additional hours/days as work responsibilities dictate
- Understanding of production operations and biosecurity protocols
- Cleaning of company vehicle equipment to meet biosecurity requirements and to represent Christensen Farms in a highly professional manner
- Support and contribute (through employee's own labor or through leadership and direction of contractors) to assigned work completion
- Assist, support, and collaborate with other CF departments as company needs dictate
- Computer proficient with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Maintain an inventory of electrical tools and equipment
- Observe, always promote and enforce Christensen Farms safety policies
- Correct and report any observed safety hazards
- Complete specified paperwork on time, including work orders, time sheets, purchase orders, inventory logs, mileage reports, etc.
- Maintain professional relationships with stakeholders and subcontractors

Education, Training, and Experience Requirements:
- Two or Four-year Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited university
- 4+ years industry experience with emphasis in supporting capital projects, managing capital projects in a semi-automated environment.
- Experience with PLC's, VFD's, MCC's - Programming, troubleshooting, commissioning and set-up.
- Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, lighting distribution panels, single line diagrams, electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of electrical, building and safety codes
- Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and important information in a timely manner. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy. Some analytical ability is required in order to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work. Ensures ethical representation in all facets of Christensen Farms. Ability to apply independent judgement in major areas of accountability. Strict adherence to company confidentiality.
