Primary Objective of Position:
The materials Supervisor plans, directs, and coordinates activities relating to the materials department activities including safety, quality, productivity, and employee relations. Supervises the Materials department’s Team Leaders, Production Control, Sequencer/Tuggers, and Forklift Truck Drivers.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Effectively select, develop/maintain team position-specific training plans, and deliver performance feedback and disciplinary action to assigned staff to promote a collaborative and motivated production environment while ensuring company policies are followed.
- With key work partners to collaborate, identify, plan and implement process improvement and cost reduction initiatives improving material handling efficiencies.
- Review allocated warehouse space and optimized layout as needed.
- Participate in the evaluation, disposition, and process of rejects according to established policies and practices.
- Monitor supplier product quality, and inventory levels, and initiate replenishment orders for supplies.
- Define, measure, and report on production metrics and utilize information to formulate staff objectives.
- Oversee the creation of production schedules and identify and resolve barriers to resolve day-to-day production issues to ensure customer deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Conduct departmental meetings to communicate goals, changes, and provide daily priorities, and update the status of relevant items.
- Coordinate, train, and perform certification and re-certification tests for all internal forklift drivers.
- Plan and schedule daily resources to ensure deliveries are met with minimal scheduled hours.
- Expedite parts/orders to ensure completion by the need date, notifying appropriate individuals of delays.
- Use the ERP system to generate reports and analyze data to facilitate the timely delivery of material. Identify, research, and resolve inventory transaction errors utilizing knowledge of ERP Systems.
- Conduct scheduled safety audits, deliver safety training, and ensure employees follow established safety and good housekeeping guidelines.
- Review and approve weekly time records for assigned employees.
- Perform other duties, assignments, and special projects as assigned.
Critical Competencies:
- Strong communication skills, working with multiple individuals including production employees, production planners, and leadership team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years experience in a Production environment, with a proven track record of problem-solving skills, cost management, and high-performance team interaction.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in direct employee supervision is required. Responsible for all direct reports' selection, performance management, and disciplinary activities.
- 3 to 5 years of related work experience with exposure to Lean methodology and KANBAN pull systems environment.
- Must have excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with a proven track record in ERP, problem-solving, and cost management.
- Strong communication skills essential, both verbal and written, and able to work within a collaborative team environment
- Intermediate knowledge of Excel required
- Exposure to lean concepts and experience with Kaizen are highly desirable
- Inventory management experience desired
