Position Title: Health and Wellness Center Aides (EMTs, CNAs, WFRs, nursing students)
Permanent/Temporary: Seasonal
Reports to: Director of Health Services
Exempt/Non-exempt: Exempt
Schedule (hours and weeks): Full-time (A variable work schedule to include some evening and weekend days), June 15 - August 15, 2023

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
Health Center Aides (HCA) are EMTs, CNAs, or nursing students. They provide our camp nurses with support services that ensure The Health and Wellness Center (HWC) can run effectively and efficiently. HCAs are responsible for administrative as well as clinical tasks, such as maintaining camper records, providing basic first aid, and assisting nurses with a variety of tasks such as medication administration and recording vital signs.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with care of campers, including behavior redirection, nutrition, and hygiene
  • Adherence to daily schedule, including mealtimes and meetings when on duty
  • Work with the Director of Health Services and RNs to ensure campers’ health and wellbeing
  • Assist nurses with medication administration and other duties as assigned
  • Administer first aid to campers of all ages and abilities
  • Ensure First Aid kits are stocked and other emergency supplies are readily available
  • Ensure the camp Health and Wellness Center is clean, organized, and well maintained
  • Assist in staff and emergency preparedness training as needed
  • Participate in camp activities as dictated by schedule or supervisor
  • Follow all camp policies and protocols
  • Support the 24 hour needs of Camp Chewonki by sleeping on campus and monitoring the on-call phone a minimum of 1-2 nights per week (in addition to regular health center shifts if not residing on campus)
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation of all health care provided to participants and staff utilizing an electronic medical record system
  • Have a basic understanding of COVID-19 risk management strategies and understand you may be asked to care for a COVID-19 positive patient
  • Work to honor and uphold the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and a lens of anti-racism in the best interest of participants, constituents, and staff across the organization


PREREQUISITES

  • Valid Driver’s License approved by Chewonki’s insurance carrier
  • Must pass Criminal Background Check


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years old
  • Two years experience in a similar field or pursuing a nursing degree
  • CNA, EMT, or WFR required
  • Desire to work with children and adults in an overnight camp setting is essential
  • First Aid/CPR certification required
  • Chewonki Foundation requires that 100% of staff are vaccinated against COVID-19, as allowed for by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccination will be required upon acceptance of a job offer.

  • Salary $5000/total summer salary
