JOB SUMMARYProvide janitorial duties at retail Store locations. Maintain both the inside of building and outside surrounding areas of the assigned location. Conduct frequent safety sweeps to ensure a safe environment for customers, donors and staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assess both inside and outside areas of store to determine any janitorial, maintenance or safety issues.
With input from the store manager, prioritize assignments and schedule activities.
Perform any or all of the following functions:
Sweep and mop floors
Vacuum rugs/carpet
Wash windows and mirrors
Dust racks, display cabinets and furniture
Clean and disinfect restroom
Clean break room
Empty trash
Breakdown and/or stack boxes
Receive and stack donations
Clean outside surrounding areas remove trash, sweep and remove weeds
Collect shopping carts from surrounding area
Strip, clean, wax and polish floors.
Perform minor repairs i.e., tighten loose screws, change lights.
Maintain inventory of supplies and order as needed.
SECONDARY DUTIES
May perform Donor Services Representative duties such as taking donations, documenting donation information and communicating with Donors.
May perform duties related to daily sanitizing of store and donation locations.
Store Janitors may need to perform related duties as assigned or needed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION REQUIRED: None.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED: None.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Six months janitorial experience, or equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED: Knowledge of cleaning products, equipment and procedures.
Familiarity with material handling techniques and procedures and proper lifting techniques.
Familiarity with Goodwill Central Coasts mission, general Company policies and procedures (this may be learned on-the-job).
EQUIPMENT USED: Typical janitorial and maintenance equipment.
SKILLS/APTITUDES/TEMPERAMENTS:
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to coordinate hand-eye-foot movements to safely handle and maneuver equipment around furniture, displays and people.
Ability to understand and accept directions and follow procedures.
Ability to adhere to safe work practices as documented in Company safety policies; ability to report safety hazards/accidents promptly to supervisor or safety committee member.
Ability to demonstrate satisfactory attendance, as outlined in Company policy.
EMOTIONAL EFFORT:
There are few short deadlines requiring little or no overtime. The work environment is routine with periods of isolated high demand.
JOB SETTING
Work is performed primarily indoors. This consists of general cleaning and routine maintenance. Work performed outside consists of clean up and/or weed control adjacent to the building. There is exposure to dirt, dust, odors and cleaning/gardening chemicals. Cleaning and gardening products are to be used according to manufacturers instructions.
Walking/standing surface are primarily uniform. The ground outside may be uneven.
Noise is not significant; radios and televisions in the store may be turned on. Work is
performed independently; however, some tasks are coordinated with co-workers. There is consistent contact with co-workers and customers.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The job requires regular lifting/carrying of objects up to 25 lbs. with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Heavier items (51 lbs. or more) are moved either with assistance from another person or by using proper material handling equipment.
Normal or corrected talking, hearing, and seeing abilities are sufficient to perform required tasks.
