The Sr. Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for the development, maintenance, and deployment of technology to meet the needs and requirements of the division’s business and customers. The Sr. Business Intelligence (BI) Developer will have a good understanding of internal and external customer needs to recommend and deploy appropriate BI solutions. This position is also responsible for the development and maintenance of the data warehouse, extract, transfer, and load (ETL) code, and Excel or Microsoft Power BI reports.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Creates Power BI solutions for internal and external customers including modeling and visuals.
  • Conducts customer discovery meetings to determine reporting requirements.
  • Works closely with application development team members to support and maintain performance improvements and data quality.
  • Acts as subject matter expert (SME) and provides guidance and training to internal and external customers on deploying Power BI solutions.
  • Develops and maintains the data warehouse, ETLs and reports based on technical designs and adhering to department standards, development standards, and best practices.
  • Coordinates the transition of customer business requirements and technical needs with other members of the IT and Operations teams to ensure a timely and effective implementation of company solutions.
  • Participates in quality assurance testing processes to confirm that acceptance criteria are met.
  • Participates in brainstorming and discussion sessions to help operational teams better utilize technology.
  • Mentors junior BI developers for both technical and non-technical tasks.
  • Works with the DBA and architecture teams to standardize data retrieval and report development.
  • Assists with production issues as they arise.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent verbal communication skills and active listening skills.
  • Must have solid attention to detail.
  • Able to create and maintain organized documentation.
  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Reasoning ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in many different situations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Knowledgeable in developing queries for SQL database reporting.
  • A technical level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or related area, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 3-5 years of work experience with data and business intelligence solutions on the Microsoft tool stack (SQL Server, Power BI, Excel, or Azure).
  • Experience creating complete Microsoft Power BI report solutions; other BI and report tool experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server databases, Microsoft Power BI, DAX, Microsoft Excel, GIT or another code repository. Azure experience is a plus.
