Job Summary: Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP) evaluate and treat residents and patients with temporary or long-term speech, hearing, swallowing, and cognitive disabilities in compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Responsibilities of Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP):

  • Under a physician’s direction, provides quality Speech-Language Pathologist services, including evaluating patients, screening, initiating referrals, obtaining data, and following through with the established plan of care.
  • Plans, directs, or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of individuals with communication and/or swallowing or cognitive problems.
  • Administers, scores, and interprets specialized hearing and speech tests.
  • Devises special tools and treatments for the specific needs of patients.
  • Instructs residents, families, and caregivers to monitor speech and provide ways to practice new skills.
  • Completes timely documentation including progress notes, screen reports, daily notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Instructs patients as well as family members and staff in goals, progress, and appropriate therapeutic techniques.
  • Ensures compliance with protocols and regulations.

Qualifications for Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP):

  • Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Current license in Speech Therapy as required by state law.
  • Certification in clinical competency.
  • One-year clinical experience preferred.
  • Experience with cognitive and dysphagia rehabilitation within a skilled nursing facility preferred.
  • Knowledge in short-term and long-term SLP care.
