Job description
We’re looking for someone with strong communication skills (both verbal and written) who has the desire to stay up-to-date with ever-evolving social media trends and is eager to bring new ideas to the JMU social accounts while staying true to the JMU brand.
This position runs August 2023—May 2024 (renewal for 2024-25 may be considered). This position has in-office hours in Burruss Hall for 10 hours per week.
- Research and develop student-oriented social media strategies based on emerging trends in HigherEd social and the broader social media space
- Regularly update and review social media insights
- Organize and manage Instagram takeovers and “This Week at JMU” with student and professional affiliates across campus
- Assist with other miscellaneous social media responsibilities, including but not limited to: copywriting, post curation, writing alt-text for images, managing the social media calendar, comment moderation, project management, etc.
- Collaborate with other University Communications interns on short-form video content
- Collaborate with campus partners on social media campaigns and initiatives
- Serve as a JMU social media ambassador
- General understanding of Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, GIPHY.
- Ability to work well independently and collaboratively.
- Strong written and verbal professional communication skills.
- General understanding of project management best practices.
Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
