Overview:


The Senior Research Assistant will carry out clinical and translational research in the fields of neurogenetics, mental health, and clinical outcomes benefiting patients with cerebral palsy. This will include high-level supervision from the Principal Investigator (PI) in the Phelps Center for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine. Duties will include oversight of clinical research operations, protocol development/refinement, collection and analysis of data, preparation of research publications, and supervision/mentorship of trainees.


Responsibilities:
1. Assist in the creation and maintenance of clinical research databases.
2. Work with the PI(s) and other team members on single-institution and multi-institutional projects assessing clinical outcomes of medical and surgical interventions for cerebral palsy.
3. Maintain appropriate documentation of research results as required by research protocol. Recommend revisions to experimental methods based upon observations of the data following established procedures in monitoring/reviewing data quality and accuracy.
4. Keep daily lab notes including maintenance of research databases and inventory spreadsheets
5. Assure compliance with regulatory requirements and Kennedy Krieger Institute standards, policies/procedures.
6. Assist with general lab and equipment maintenance, including management of inventory levels.
7. Participate in experimental design: planning, implementing, evaluating, and interpreting results.
8. Organize, pre-process, and iteratively analyze then interpret experimental data.
9. Assists in the development of new analysis techniques, through reading of journal articles, programming, troubleshooting, and effective reporting/documentation.
10. Conduct library research, participate in preparing and editing manuscripts/scientific illustrations/computer graphics for publication.
11. Mentor the work of students involved in research.
12. Enhance professional growth and development through research meetings, case conferences, educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, conferences, and seminars.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or related field required.
  • Master’s degree in STEM or related field preferred.
  • Coursework in database management, statistics, and academic publication formats preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 4-years of related experience.
  • Candidates with a Master’s degree must have a minimum of 2-years of related experience.
  • Prior working knowledge in at least one Statistical software (MATLAB, SPSS, R, SATA, or SAS) is preferred.
  • Experience with database management and manuscript preparation preferred.
  • Applicants from non-traditional training pathways but exceptional relevant experience may also be considered
