About the Job

The Distribution Support Manager (District Market Leader (DML) Trainee) will be responsible to support the Market DC’s achieving and exceeding operational Supply Chain excellence in business execution. This includes, but is not limited to gaining sustainable productivity gains, ensuring overall adherence to IFS, DOT, safety standards as well as Dawn Food standards, ensuring sustainable cost-effective targeted service levels, striving towards optimal cost per units/hour, among others. The DML Trainee will achieve this through partnering on site with the Distribution Center Market organization and the key Dawn Supply Chain business partners. The DML Trainee will also be placed on interim assignments in Markets acting as the DML, Operations Manager, or Supervisor.


Partner to maintain targeted service levels ensuring that customer orders are complete, delivered on time with an accurate invoice while driving margin improvement through warehouse & delivery productivity, reducing expenses, and eliminated non-value-added costs and activities. Assists managers in motivating, coaching, and developing team members.


Conduct operational peer review audits. Document findings and support implementation of corrective actions.


This role will assist, in partnership with the Regional Director of Supply Chain, with onboarding and training of new DMLs, operations managers, and supervisors. Work, cross functionally, with various levels of operations and inventory management to develop a playbook for current, and new, leaders regarding standard operating procedures to deliver excellent service at a competitive cost.


As this is a hybrid role (work in offices and remotely), the selected candidate for this role will need to be willing to travel 50%+ of the time and to be located in the western part of the Unites States, preferrably in one of these locations:

Seattle, WA

Union City or Ontario, CA

Pheonix, AZ

Salt Lake City, Ut

Denver, CO


What you will do as a Distribution Market Leader

  • Extensive travel will be required (Over 50%)
  • Safety / Compliance: Supports market DC to adhere to and comply with all DOT, IFS, OSHA and FDA standards throughout the facility while serving as the DML or Operations Manager. Supports a sustainable safety culture, ensuring on-time training, active safety committees, near-miss awareness & reporting, and team member coaching.
  • Financial / Budgetary: Assists the team with improving productivity, reducing expenses, and eliminating non-value-added expenses. Support inventory control functions to drive inventory accuracy and reduce damage limiting inventory losses through write-offs. Participates in annual budgeting and monthly variance analysis to develop corrective measures as well as develop the understanding of Dawn’s full year budgeting cycle. Support annual and emergency CER process, including building the business case for capex and writing CERs and related presentations.
  • Customer Service: Ensures that all products are delivered on-time and in-full, with the best possible Customer Experience (order to delivery). Ensures that local market resources are integrated to provide optimal customer service. Accountable to manage recovery of service issues in the market in a cost-effective manner while acting as DML or Operations Manager.
  • Team Member Leadership & Development: Supports staffing to drive safety, service, and savings. Facilitates team member training, development, and performance management to meet Dawn business objectives.
  • Warehouse Execution: Partners with site leadership to ensure that all warehouse processes and procedures are followed, leveraging WMS technology to support proper inventory control and effective and efficient receiving, storage, and picking / loading. Ensures facility maintenance and sanitation are completed timely and according to Dawn standards. Perform and conduct onsite operational review audits.
  • Private Fleet Management: Ensures safe, compliant and efficient operation of Dawn private fleet, leveraging technology (primarily Roadnet and Greenmile) to plan and execute delivery in compliance with all DOT regulations and Dawn policies. Ensures that Dawn drivers serve as front-line ambassadors of Dawn in all delivery interactions.
  • Matrix Leadership: Serves as a Distribution Support Manager (site leader in training), partnering with DML’s, operations warehouse, transportation managers and supervisors as well as cross-functional partners (commercial, finance, fulfilment, etc.) to build and maintain a cohesive culture reflecting Dawn values and ensuring exceptional service to our customers.
  • Dawn Ambassador: Acts as an ambassador for the company within the industry and the community to bring awareness to the Dawn brand. Demonstrates Dawn Values and supports the Circle of Excellence.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 7-10 years’ experience in a leadership position within a distribution center or manufacturing environment required.
  • Prior experience in food distribution is preferred.
  • Prior experience supporting or managing multisite operations preferred
  • Prior experience in a multi-temperature distribution environment strongly preferred.
  • Must be willing to relocate.
  • Extensive travel (ex. Supporting a location for multiple weeks at a time). Up to 50-75% based on need.
  • Strong understanding of private fleet operations, including sound knowledge of DOT requirements and supporting technology (e.g., Descartes, Greenmile or similar applications) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in utilization of ERP and WMS technologies required, SAP highly preferred.
  • Proven success in a team / matrix environment required.
  • Prior experience with Continuous Improvement / Lean methods preferred.
  • High level of interpersonal, communication and a proven ability to establish relationships that positively Support a business is required
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required. Prior responsibility for building annual budgets and managing performance within financial parameters is Required.

Compensation: $87,850 - $131,770 annual salary and bonus eligble.
