The University of Colorado School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry has just welcomed their new Department Chair, C. Neill Epperson, MD and is in the process of growing the Department of Psychiatry with new programs and expanding existing programs.

Nature of Work

Psychiatric providers employed by the University of Colorado to provide care to patients in the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo shall be responsible for offering professional psychiatric services to patients in compliance with Colorado Mental Health Institutes at Pueblo and mental health guidelines, to include psychiatric assessment of patient’s mental health needs, prescription and management of psychiatric medicine, clinical management of patients with mental illness, consultation with other staff regarding the mental health needs of patients, provision of training to ancillary staff regarding psychiatric needs and issues, and assisting in the care of patients presenting with psychiatric crises or emergencies.

Please note, this is categorized as a Senior Instructor position as it is a full time, benefits eligible position.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provides psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients on an inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit.
  • Collects, organizes and evaluates information from a variety of sources including patient, family members, outpatient providers and other members of the treatment team (e.g. nursing staff, social workers, psychologists, etc.).
  • Prescribes medications as indicated and manages adverse reactions, effectively monitoring and changing treatment as needed.
  • Provides input for clinical and administrative programming of the treatment unit(s).
  • Communicates effectively with team members and other hospital staff.
  • Follows proper documentation policies including medical necessity for patient treatments. Remains up-to-date with documentation as described in policy.
  • Serves on various committees to assist the hospital in its mission and goals.
  • Participates in Peer Review activities.
  • Complies with Medical Staff Bylaws and Medical Staff Rules & Regulations.
  • Maintains active clinical staff privileges and current license.
  • Performs other duties as reasonably requested.
  • Provides clinical coverage to colleagues as needed.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring rate (or budgeted rate) for this position has been established at:

Senior Instructor: $223,000 - $234,465 (based on years of experience), full-time position, benefits eligible.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Senior Instructor

  • MD or DO with completion of General Psychiatry training program and licensure eligibility in Colorado
  • Board eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board certification in psychiatry and licensed in Colorado
