Our Professional Learning team is looking for a highly motivated, seasoned leader who is passionate about designing the highest quality, transformative professional learning experiences for educators across the country.
As the Senior Director of Professional Learning Design, you will be committed to planning for the future and growth of PL, equipping the PL Team to maximize their impact in schools, and collaborating across departments. You will oversee the development, refinement, and evaluation of all professional learning service offerings and ensure the delivery of our team mission is infused in every professional learning experience we provide.
As a leader on the Professional Learning team, the Senior Director of PL Design reports to the Senior Vice President of Professional Learning, manages the PL Design team members, and works collaboratively across a number of other internal teams, including Instructional Design, Product, Customer Success, Customer Support, Tutoring Services, Sales, and Account Management.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Overseeing PL Design & Development
Managing the PL product roadmap according to department and company goals and initiatives by:
- Collaborating with the SVP of Professional Learning, RVPs, and PL Design Directors to understand customer needs and prioritize on-demand PL design requests
- Staying aware of current market research, customer needs, customer feedback, shifts in standards, and trends in instructional practices, technology, and assessment
Overseeing the development of the highest quality development professional learning offerings (onsite, virtual, and MyPL+)
- Ensuring a consistent Customer Education experience across all products
- Ensuring the PL team mission and design principles are evident and consistent across all professional learning offerings
Driving efficiencies in the development of professional learning offerings (onsite, virtual, and MyPL+)
- Managing a development cycle for the creation of all professional learning assets, resources, and coursework
- Overseeing PL Design team capacity planning in partnership with the PL Design Directors, including calculating team capacity, determining project requirements, prioritizing projects, allocating resources, and monitoring risks.
- Analyzing capacity planning to maximize productivity within the PL Design Team
- Tracking return on investment (ROI) for PL Design projects to support short term and long term project prioritization
Managing & Mentoring Your Team
- Championing the overall mission and core values of the professional learning organization (and the company as a whole) and cultivating them across your team
- Leading, growing and developing a team of Directors, Design and Customer Ed Managers, and PL Specialists
- Equitably recruiting, interviewing, and hiring for open positions with a focus on finding candidates who exemplify our core values
- Managing the day-to-day requests and approvals for each team member under your care
- Building agency in their team and empowering team members to take responsibility within their role and individual professional growth
- Fostering a spirit of teamwork and unity among team members that allows for disagreement over ideas, conflict and expeditious conflict resolution, and the appreciation of diversity as well as cohesiveness, support, and working effectively together to enable each team member to succeed
- Communicating regularly with team members individually (weekly), small groups (bi-weekly), and as a whole group (monthly)
- Utilizing the annual reflection and quarterly goal-setting/check-in conversations through the Make Us Better Campaign to motivate team members to their full potential
Supporting the Professional Learning Team
- Managing the Professional Learning Resources folder within the PL Portal and PL Tools Database
- Developing and maintaining guides for designing and delivering Professional Learning services
- Supporting onboarding and professional growth of the PL Team
Other Work
- Developing and using collaborative relationships within and across departments in order to influence product development, contribute to marketing and thought leadership efforts, etc. as a representation of our teachers and leaders
- Growing yourself professionally in professional learning design, leadership, and other areas of interest
- Managing the content and resources for national institutes along with the PL Design Directors
- Performing other duties as assigned or apparent
WHAT YOUR DAY-TO-DAY MIGH LOOK LIKE
NOTE: This role will require some travel (approximately 20%) for Team Meetings, Institutes, Leadership Meetings, shadowing and evaluating professional learning experiences.
WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR BOOKBAG
- Master’s degree (preferred), Bachelor’s degree in education (required)
- Experience mentoring, coaching, or managing others
- 5+ years experience designing and delivering professional learning workshops
- Understanding of school and district infrastructure including technology environments and management
- Exceptional leadership skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment maintaining a positive attitude in stressful situations
- Solution-minded and detail-oriented; always looking for ways to improve efficiency, communication, and the customer experience
- Ability to follow through on assigned tasks and projects with minimal supervision
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
