Senior Business Analyst - IT

American Public Education, Inc. (APEI) is seeking a Senior Business Analyst with strong analytical and product management skills to proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers across the enterprise. The candidate will display a deeper understanding of the role and business analysis tasks and techniques and demonstrate effective team leadership behaviors. The Senior Business Analyst establishes and maintains liaison relationships with business partners across the enterprise in order to provide effective technical solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes business processes to define the functional and detailed requirements and works with the team to design specifications and an approach.
  • Analyzes business practices throughout American Public University System (APUS) departments and utilize this information to influence process improvements.
  • Understands, analyzes, interprets, and documents process workflows.
  • Analyzes information to include performance data, metrics, and process interdependencies to conceptualize and define operational problems.
  • Leads discovery sessions, publishes meeting minutes, and assures all action items are completed within the established timeframe.
  • Consult with business process owners to obtain additional information during system development to evaluate an alternative approach.
  • Conducts system demonstrations and coordinates the creation of user guides.
  • Prepares User Acceptance Testing (UAT) documentation and leads the user acceptance testing effort with the responsible business process owner.
  • Oversees the transition to new processes and provides post-production release support.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of experience working in Information Technology as a Business Analyst.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodology as well as more formalized waterfall-style Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience with design/development of web applications and SaaS products
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products, especially SharePoint, Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Ability to use current and contemporary business tools and methodologies. Experience with project management processes and tools preferred.

Work Environment, Travel, and Physical Demands:

  • Standard office Environment or ability to efficiently work remotely
  • Limited travel may be required as needed
