Job Title: Sea Turtle Stranding Coordinator
Location: Silver Spring, MD
Clearance Required: Public Trust
Position Summary: Provide assistance to the NMFS National Sea Turtle Coordinator and the National Stranding and Salvage Network to identify priority projects and needs within the Northern Gulf of Mexico.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the NMFS National Sea Turtle Coordinator and the National STSSN Coordination Team to identify priority projects and needs.
- Assist Federal staff with evaluating state training needs and coordinating training sessions including the distribution of updated response protocols.
- Facilitation timely and accurate submissions of data, forms, and photos to the National STSSN Database.
- Review and verify stranding records in the National STSSN Database.
- Develop data access, data summary, data visualization and data analysis tools for the National STSSN Database.
- Provide assistance needed with stranding response, emergency response, carcass transport, necropsies, sampling and other activities.
- Assist with data gathering on threats affecting sea turtles in the marine environment.
- Provide mapping and analysis assistance for unusual mortality events, historic analysis of stranding events, and other health stranding needs in coordination with the Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network.
- Assist Federal staff with planning, development, beta testing, and implementation of the Sea Turtle Stranding and Salvage Network Database.
