Sample Processing/Optical Microscopy Group Leader
ManTech is seeking a talented Senior Scientist / Engineer to add to its Sunol, California laboratory staff. The successful candidate will be expected to perform and lead a group of other scientists, engineers and technicians in complex sample processing and optical microscopy analyses on customer samples. Daily team interaction with scientists, engineers, and technicians, as well as participation in the maintenance of auxiliary equipment is required. The laboratory performs materials characterization and related analytical services on commercial and government contracts.
Responsibilities:
- As Group Leader, manage the sample processing group and optical microscopy group
- Analyze and interpret sample processing results as well as optical microscopy data
- Devise or modify analysis techniques and procedures to address new analytical requirements
- Constructively interact with scientists, engineers, and technicians
- Participate in equipment maintenance
- Establish themselves as a key resource for ManTech and our customers, helping maintain our expertise in the field of sample processing and optical microscopy
- Perform QA/QC on the work output of the sample processing and optical microscopy groups
- Assist the Program Manager with additional managerial duties as required
- Assist the Quality Manager with all efforts to keep our ISO 17025 accreditation
Primary Qualifications:
- Degree in material science, engineering or other related chemical or physical science field, Ph.D preferred, with 5-10+ years of technical and laboratory experience
- Extensive hands-on experience using optical microscopy techniques to solve problems in materials science, nuclear science, or geology
- Extensive hands-on experience in clean room operations and techniques to solve problems in material science, nuclear science, or geology
- Demonstrated expertise in either optical microscopy or sample processing techniques
Additional Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to write clear scientific and technical reports
- Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems
- Expertise in scientific data analysis and quality control
- Ability to work under broad managerial direction
- Team oriented with the ability to manage small groups of people
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain a government security clearance
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50%
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
- The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations
