Director Level role, will work out of our new Columbia MD Corporate HQ with regular travel to our acquisition locations.. Create programs, strategic planning relating to business growth across all platforms.
Part of our OPS Team - Safety, Fleet, OSHA etc
Must be a CSP - Certified Safety Professional

Preferred: Similar Service industry: Plumbing HVAC etc - Experience with a company that has Field Techs, large Fleet of vehicles (1000+ )

Director of Safety for LEN THE PLUMBER HOME SERVICES GROUP

We are looking for an experienced Safety Director (CSP preferred) to join our company. In this role, you'll be responsible for creating and overseeing health and safety protocols for the company, and ensuring that staff members are properly informed regarding emergency preparedness, use of protective equipment, and accident protocol.

In this director-level role, you will work out of our new Columbia MD, Corporate HQ with regular travel to our acquisition locations.

LTP Home Services is seeking a Director of Safety to evaluate health and safety exposures and potential risks within the operating structure of business operations and make recommendations for alterations or corrections to prevent resulting loss. This person also assists in development of processes, programs and/or materials required to achieve successful implementation of recommendations. LTP is one of the fastest growing Home Services contractors with 8 entities, over 1000 employees, 850+ fleet vehicles in 20+ locations serving from Florida to New Jersey.

To ensure success as a Safety Director, you should display exceptional knowledge of company safety policies and relevant occupational safety and health administration (OSHA) standards. Ultimately, an outstanding safety director should be able to identify opportunities to minimize workplace health hazards quickly and efficiently.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Travels to sites and identifies and evaluates the safety culture, physical conditions and practices of prospective and current businesses; reports findings to producer and others, as needed
  • Makes recommendations for improving the safety culture and for remedying any hazardous condition, practice, or potential loss-causing circumstance to comply with appropriate codes and standards
  • Communicates and distributes safety, hazard preventing, and loss control information to co-workers and clients
  • Works with safety representatives at individual entities and Human Resource personnel to plan and direct safety programs
  • Develops, implements, and monitors a strategic loss control service plan in compliance with standards set by the company
  • Responsible for development and implementation of an effective, collaborative safety culture with the goal of minimizing and eliminating risk.
  • Understands the need for incorporating Behavior Based Safety in the overall Safety process
  • Ability to analyzes and interpret data analytics to provide strategic enhancements tied to financial outcomes
  • Prepares written correspondence, analyses, reports, and memos as needed
  • Accumulates required continuing educational credits to maintain current certifications
  • Attends staff meetings, department meetings, educational workshops, conventions, carrier functions, industry and trade meetings, and social functions
  • Manages program to conducts thorough investigations of safety incidents, determines probable cause, makes recommendations for corrective action, and facilitates proper resolution.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor and participates in all workplace safety forums and branch leadership meetings.
  • Analyzes training records to determine continuing education needs, and once approved, coordinates and/or conducts training as appropriate.

•Compiles and presents an entity level safety report to the VP Ops on a monthly basis.

Assembles and submits updated safety-related budget forecasts on an as needed basis.

QUALIFICATIONS/ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health or related field or equivalent education and/or experience
  • Advanced degree preferred, and/or industry-related designations or certification such as CSP
  • General working knowledge of commercial property/casualty insurance with additional specializations or competencies relevant to position highly desired
  • Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA regulations and other work-related legislation
  • Ability to design, author, or create written materials that support loss control effort
  • Exceptional ability to make oral presentations and provide instruction to large groups of individuals, alone and as a team member. Must be dynamic in presentation style for a wide variety of audiences, including executive-level decision makers
  • Ability to work with computer technology with little instruction; proficiency at spreadsheet, word processing, graphics, and other data intensive software
  • Demonstrated ability to gain comfort and confidence in a business relationship, and to further develop relationship beyond the realm of business
  • Willingness to expand knowledge and effectiveness in industry by successful completion of extended education beyond continuing education requirements
  • Ability to travel by automobile and aircraft and to stay for more than one day and night; ability to travel on short notice

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed in field, client, office and warehouse environments.

Travel to each LTP and affiliate locations up to 70%.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

10+ years of applicable industry experience in occupational safety and health including developing and managing a Safety and Health Management System.

Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local building codes and construction laws.

Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) Certification.

Bachelor s Degree in occupational health or related field.

Previous training experience in an office and/or field environment.

Qualified for Fall Protection, Confined Space, and Trench & Excavation.

OSHA 500 Construction/501 Trainer Certification.

Current CPR/First Aid/AED Trainer.

  • Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems
  • Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards
  • Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations
  • Reviews accident and incident reports
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to conduct training
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills

Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required.
  • At least five years of occupational health and safety experience in a service environment is required.
