JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for setting up, operating and performing maintenance on the stitchers. Responsible for leading a crew of people to achieve optimum efficiency. Must be able to process all customer orders with information from the e-ticket and ship reports. The Stitcher Operator is required to maintain production logs and 1st Articles.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Sets up and operates all stitchers efficiently and safely to meet/exceed Walsworth's standards for waste and throughput, daily.
  • Prints job tickets and ship reports, daily.
  • Reads and understands special instructions on job tickets and ship reports to process customer orders accurately, daily.
  • Leads co-workers assigned to the stitcher line, daily.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on all stitchers, weekly.
  • Maintains and re-builds stitcher heads, weekly.
  • Cross trains on other work centers such as binders, 3-knife trimmer and small machines as time allows.
  • Coaches crew members to perform at optimal level, daily.
  • Effectively troubleshoots mechanical and operational problems on the stitchers as needed.
  • May be required to complete special projects as needed.
  • Must be able to read, follow and perform work instructions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Basic PC skills are required. Must be able to retrieve tickets and ship reports from network computer, understand and interpret to complete customer requirements.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Leadership skills are required, as this position frequently leads a team of up to 5.
  • Previous experience working with Bindery equipment or other machinery is helpful.
  • Must be able to read, understand and apply all information on e-tickets, ship reports, proofs, 1st Article and Quality manuals.
