Department Overview:
South Operating Room (Main OR) is a large 25-bed OR primarily an adult inpatient operating room with a small volume of outpatient procedures including: Cardiac/ Thoracic, General Surgery/Minimally Invasive/ Colorectal/Bariatric, Gynecology, Oral Maxillofacial, Neuro/neuro spine, Orthopedic/orthopedic spine, Otolaryngology, Plastics, Transplant, Urology, Vascular, Robotic (Urology/GYN/Oral), and Trauma. Surgical procedures on infants and children less than 18 years of age are also performed if the procedure requires specialized equipment found only at this location.

The OHSU Operating Room provides around-the-clock multidisciplinary services to adult patients across their life span. The department cares for Ambulatory, Adult Acute Care and Adult ICU patients arriving from home, ED or from the In-Patient setting. OHSU is a Magnet designated hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center.

OHSU cares for acutely and critically ill patients in our Operating Room. We provide the latest evidence-based care and have a reputation for effective teamwork. Operating Room nurses understand the importance of their independent scope of practice and engage in dependent scope of practice decision making with the team. Operating Room nurses also provide patient and family-centered care for the full spectrum of illnesses.

The OHSU Clinical registered nurse (RN) provides compassionate, evidence-based, and efficient care to individuals, families, communities and patient populations. The Clinical RN's care delivery is consistent with the Oregon Nurse Practice Act, the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics. The Clinical RN demonstrates the professional role obligations of scientist, leader, and knowledge transferor [Onsomble Model of the Professional Roleā„¢]. Professional accountability enriches the Clinical RN's engagement as a leader in promoting an inter-professional culture of collaborative decision-making, innovation, life-long learning, and teamwork. The Clinical RN exemplifies the principles of a Culture of Safety by committing to a Just Culture, a Reporting Culture, a Learning Culture, and an Engaged Informed Culture.

Required Qualifications:
  • ADN or BSN from an accredited school required
  • BSN for external candidates preferred
  • Current unencumbered Oregon RN license
  • BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA (upload documentation with online application)
  • BLS must not expire during orientation or probation period, and must have the same expiration date (upload documentation with online application)
  • Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information and tools
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

  • CNOR
