Respiratory Therapist RT PRN

Lake Butler Hospital is a critical access hospital in North Florida providing 24-hour emergency services, inpatient hospitalization, swing bed program, rehabilitation services, outpatient laboratory, and outpatient radiology (X-ray, ultrasound, and CT Scan) services to Union County and the surrounding counties. We are devoted to providing all members of our community with premier-quality health care in a compassionate and inviting environment.

We are looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Respiratory Therapist to join our team as a PRN employee. PRN shifts are typically 7am-7pm and could be Monday through Sunday depending on the needs of the department.

Job Summary:

Meets patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by conducting pulmonary function tests; assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results; determining respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with providers and by prescription. Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and supports life by administering inhalants; operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Meets patient's goals and needs and provides quality care by conducting pulmonary function tests; assessing evaluations and test results; determining respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians and by prescription.

2. Helps patient accomplish treatment plan and supports life by administering inhalants, operating mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.

3. Administers respiratory therapy treatments by performing bronchopulmonary drainage; assisting with breathing exercises; monitoring physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.

4. Evaluates effects of respiratory therapy treatment plan by observing, noting, and evaluating patient's progress, recommending adjustments and modifications.

5. Completes discharge planning by consulting with providers, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers, contributing to patient care conferences.

6. Assures continuation of therapeutic plan following discharge by instructing patients, families, and caregivers; recommending assistive equipment; recommending outpatient or home health follow-up programs.

7. Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.

8. Maintains patient confidence and protects hospital operations by keeping information confidential.

9. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

10. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

11. Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs.

12. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

13. Complies with federal, state, and local legal and certification requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

14. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

General Duties:

1. Ensures positive guest relations by demonstrating a welcoming, caring, and helpful attitude to all patients and visitors of LBH and enforces this attitude among other staff.

2. Functions as an effective team member by maintaining positive intra-and interdepartmental relationships.

3. Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information in compliance with HIPAA policies.

4. Attends and or completes mandatory annual education to include, but not limited to infection control, safety, risk management, etc.

5. Complies with hospital policies and procedures.

6. Contributes to the overall success of Lake Butler Hospital by performing all other duties as assigned.

7. Serves on committees as requested by Administration.

8. Always presents a professional appearance and attitude.

9. Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.

10. Wear’s identification while on duty.

11. Demonstrates the ability to work cohesively with other members of a team.

12. Always represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.

13. Meets hospital attendance standards.

14. Reports to work on time and as scheduled.

15. Demonstrates punctuality and consistency by clocking in/out appropriately.

16. Takes part in activities to promote the objectives and goals of LBH.

17. Continually strives to meet department goals.

18. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and local regulations.

19. Complies with all organization policies and standards regarding ethical business practices.

20. Attends regular staff meetings.

21. Keeps abreast of organizational changes and information by reading documents provided, checking individual company emails, etc., on a weekly basis.

Requirements:

Respiratory Therapist RT PRN

Education: Minimally Required Associate Degree, National Board of Respiratory Care and licensed to practice in Florida by the Florida Board of Respiratory Care. Current BLS, ACLS, PALS.


Experience: Minimally Required At least 3 years of Respiratory Therapy experience in a hospital setting

Skills: Minimally Required Bedside Manner, Informing Others, Verbal Communication, Medical Teamwork, Judgment, Procedural Skills, People Skills.


Physical Requirements:

Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
