SUMMARY OF POSITION
**MAP certified staff wanted for morning and afternoon shifts.**
Under the general supervision of the Residence Coordinator, the Residential Counselor provides support to individuals in group homes with the goal of maximizing their capacity for personal growth and community membership consistent with each individual's support plan.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Direct Care Duties:
- Advocates effectively for individuals, ensuring individuals' choices, interests and needs are supported and implemented consistent with their Individual Support Plan (ISP).
- Provides direct support to individuals and instructs them in the completion of their activities of daily living (bathing, cooking, cleaning, toileting, shopping) as required, including direct physical support.
- Observes and reports on individuals’ physical, mental and emotional conditions. Serves as a positive role model in areas of interpersonal relations, social behavior, and appropriate dress.
- Manages challenging situations, does problem-solving, and provides positive behavioral supports. Uses sound judgment where limited guidelines exist.
- If MAP certified, dispenses medications, obtains vital signs, and administers treatments to individuals per physicians’ orders and according to Medication Administration Program (MAP) policy.
- Supports individuals to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with friends and family members, and provides opportunities for them to become contributing members in the community. Seeks out and supports appropriate and safe outside activities that reflect the individual’s interests. Provides and facilitates transportation to community activities, appointments, work, errands, etc.
- Assures safety, cleanliness, and appearance of the group house. Assists and trains individuals to help maintain the house.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree and related experience preferred.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals and their families, co-workers and outside professionals. Ability to read and interpret ISPs, records, logs, policies, manuals, etc. Ability to write accurate and timely progress reports, log notes, assessments and correspondence.
DRIVING
Ability to drive program vehicles and wheelchair vans to transport individuals to appointments, day programs, recreational activities, etc. Must be able to drive for extended periods if needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent walking, standing and driving. Must be able to maintain a high level of energy in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to lift and/or carry lightweight and moderately heavy objects. Must be able to assist in lifting and transferring individuals. Must be able to implement safety restraint procedures in response to emergencies or treatment plans, and apply First Aid and CPR.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
CPR and First Aid certificates, COVID-19 vaccination, Valid driver's license, MAP Certification (as required) .
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
