No matter what your role is, you'll find a diverse, team-driven, fun culture where your contributions truly count.We are seeking an accomplished, creative, and highly motivated Protein Scientist to join the newly formed Antibody Discovery team in Seattle contributing to Drug Discovery efforts at Adaptive. The Drug Discovery group at Adaptive is a multidisciplinary team focused on leveraging Adaptive's immune medicine platform, BCR and TCR discovery capabilities, and novel technology developments to develop differentiated and transformative therapeutics.
The Antibody Discovery team is responsible for identifying and characterizing B cell receptors with therapeutic potential for multiple diseases. We are looking for a highly collaborative protein scientist who can work in a fast-paced environment. The person holding this position will be a key contributor in bringing in new technology to be used in engineering and expressing protein targets to be used in discovering and validating new antibodies against diseases of interest.
In this role, the Research Scientist, independently plans and executes a wider array of experiments or other related functions, which may include some experiments that support non-routine scientific activities and project goals.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions
- Contribute to protein production in drug discovery.
- Express and purify protein from different systems including mammalian cells, insect cells or E.coli.
- Conduct protein quantitation and quantity analysis.
- Clone and amplify protein expression vectors.
- Conduct protein conjugation to support B-cell sorting.
- Maintain mammalian cell lines, including expanding cultures, harvesting cells, and cryopreservation
- Effectively prioritize and manage multiple experiments of varying size and scope
- Maintain laboratory instruments, reagents, consumables, and other routine laboratory tasks as needed
Position Requirements (Education, Experience, Other)
Required
- Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, structural biology, or related discipline
- 5+ years of research experience (or Master's degree and 3+ years of experience)
Special knowledge & skills
- Strong background in protein expression and purification, molecular biology, biochemistry.
- Extensive experience with different purification approaches including affinity, ion exchange and gel filtration by AKTA purification system.
- Familiar with transfection procedures in different protein expression systems.
- Hands-on experience with molecular cloning.
- Experience with basic protein functional analysis such as ELISA.
- Experience with BLI quantitation and kinetics analysis is a plus.
- Experience with Windows OS, Mac OS, and MS Office literacy required.
- Great oral and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and impeccable record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Working Conditions
Job requires working in a lab and may require handling biological material including blood, bone marrow, and tissue. Work occasionally requires flexible and/or extended hours.
Physical Requirements
Staff may have to periodically spend extended periods of time standing/sitting within the lab while executing repetitive work, which also includes:
- Lift <20 pounds regularly
- Lift >20 pounds occasionally
- Lift/move large freezers and fridges with the assistance of dollies and carts
- Occasionally spend <5 minutes in walk-in -20°C freezer, wearing insulated coat
Constant work in labs, following all guidelines and protective measures.
