Summary

The department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor campus) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in the area of water quality and contaminants of emerging concern. The start date for the position is expected to be between January-March 2023. The researcher will help design and lead the research component of a pilot scale project at the City of Ann Arbor drinking water plant. The project is led by the University of Michigan with Prof. Alex Szczuka serving as the PI and Prof. Lut Raskin serving as the co-PI. The researchers will work closely with City of Ann Arbor personnel and receive support from AECOM personnel. The postdoctoral research fellow will be expected to contribute to additional research efforts in the Szczuka laboratory (szczukalab.com), including manuscript preparation, grant writing, and student mentorship.

The appointment is anticipated for two years, with renewal after the first year contingent on sufficient progress. Funding for the position is available for up to two years. The position may be extended after two years, subject to the availability of funds.

Desired Qualifications*

An ideal candidate for this position should be excited to gain experience at the utility, environmental engineering consulting, and academic research levels. The position is especially well suited for Ph.D. graduates who would like to explore multiple research-oriented career paths.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. In addition, experience with contaminant quantification using GC-MS or LC-MS is desired, but not required.
