A Research Associate position is available immediately in the area of cartilage tissue engineering with pluripotent cells with the Cell and Tissue Bioengineering Laboratory (CBTL) at the University of Alabama-Huntsville (UAH). The research will be conducted under the direct supervision of Dr. Anu Subramanian and is funded by the National Institutes of Health aiming to develop assistive technologies with low-intensity-ultrasound. The CBTL laboratory is located in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at UAH.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the isolation of induced pluripotent stem cells from somatic cells, mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow aspirates, develop differentiation protocols, characterization of cell types, and develop tissue analogs using low-intensity-ultrasound. The NIH-R01 funded project also involves using RNASEQTM to monitor chondrogenesis of mesenchymal stem cells under a variety of conditions. The research associate will also be expected to manage the laboratory operations/purchasing and work with graduate students. The Research Associate is also expected to assist with grant management, grant accounting oversight, and also grant reporting. This position is eligible to receive benefits as per UAH policy.
- Bachelor's degree
- 15 - 21 months of full-time verifiable experience working with chondrocytes and MSCs
- Experience in the preparation of hydrogels and RNASEQ exposure
- Strong background in iPSC and MSC technology, cell culture, Flow cytometry, cellular assays, microscopy, RT-PCR, Western blotting, Histology, IHC
- Familiarity with RNA-SEQTM and software for bioinformatics analyses
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ph.D. degree in Cell Biology, Molecular biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Bioengineering or Veterinary Science or Medicine, or a related field is preferred
- The ability to communicate scientific results effectively, both written and oral, and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists is desired
