The Gomez-Sequeira Lopez laboratory at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics seeks applicants for a Postdoctoral scholar to work in the mechanisms that determine the identity and fate of renin-expressing cells. The candidate will utilize epigenomic, single cell approaches, and lineage tracing strategies to understand the chromatin structure that determines the fate of renin cells during physiological changes in physiological status and disease. We are seeking candidates with experience in either epigenetic manipulation, imaging methodologies, working knowledge of cardiovascular and renal physiology and Medicine. The ideal candidate will have the ability to use bioinformatics approaches to understand genome-wide changes in chromatin structure during health and disease. A strong publication record is desirable. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary and diverse team of investigators with access to cutting-edge conceptual and methodological approaches to understand how cells determine their identity. The candidate will isolate fluorescently labeled renin and other kidney cells from reporting mice and use them to map the transcriptome and chromatin states that determine the cell’s identity and function. In addition, the successful candidate will use in situ determination of the epigenomic and gene expression changes that occur during kidney maturation and disease
