Duties and Responsibilities
A research assistant (RA) II position is available in the Kroken lab at Loyola University Chicago located at the Health Sciences Campus, in the department of Microbiology and Immunology. Our research interest is in eye infections associated with injury and contact lens wear, and our approaches primarily use microscopy. Please visit krokenlab.com to learn more about our research.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports research projects in the Kroken lab by performing experiments as instructed by the Principal Investigator (PI).
Receive training to be able to perform the necessary techniques and protocols for experiments, which include bacterial and cell culture techniques and microscopy.
Assist others with experimental procedures when fully trained.
Monitor inventory of lab supplies and order additional supplies when required.
Communicate with external vendors for purchasing of products and equipment.
Maintain a safe and orderly lab environment. Ensure lab complies with safety regulations.
Establish and maintain organizational systems for documenting procedures, stocks, standard operating procedures, and maintaining equipment.
Responsibly use and care for shared equipment, and request training or support when needed to operate shared equipment.
Respond to and assist other colleagues in the department as needed.
Gather, organize, enter, and analyze data; perform literature searches and read literature for information and protocols.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Minimum Education: Required: Bachelors Degree Preferred: Masters Degree Specify Degree(s): Biological or physical sciences Minimum Experience: Required: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience Preferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in biology, chemistry or related field, by May 2023
Ability to work independently after training
Ability to follow written and verbal procedures and document activities accurately
Strong organizational skills
Conscientious of deadlines and time management
Strong professional communication skills, both verbal and written

Computer Skills
Proficient with Microsoft office suite, email, desktop operating systems, and file organization structure
Applicants with any experience coding (Python or R) given preference
