Empirical Education Inc. (https://www.empiricaleducation.com) conducts research and develops research capacity in state and local education agencies around the US. Our mission is to help K-12 school systems make evidence-based decisions about the effectiveness of their programs, policies, and personnel. We seek candidates who want to contribute to leading edge research on K-12 schools to join our research team.
Responsibilities
Research Assistants at Empirical Education provide support to Research Managers, who manage research projects from start to finish. In this role, you will do the following.
- Manage survey process: Format surveys with online survey software, deploy surveys, track responses, provide technical support to survey respondents and follow up with non-responders, clean data, and combine results.
- Collect, maintain, and analyze other data: Schedule data collection activities with school principals, teachers, and contracted data collectors; follow up on data requests and other necessary documentation; check, track, clean, and maintain electronic files and associated data; resolve any issues with data; assist with qualitative (descriptive) and quantitative (numeric) data analysis.
- Communication: Serve as main contact with teachers to distribute information about studies, answer questions, and provide support.
- Track and document research participation: Serve as a primary point-of-contact for study participants and document changes in participation, including participant job functions (e.g., grade, subject, or school in which participants teach), and communicate relevant changes to research team.
- Literature reviews and reference desk services: Conduct reviews of research literature and gather relevant background information; assist reference desk service/technical reference library project by compiling relevant research in quick turnaround responses.
- Perform and document essential project tasks.
- Other duties may include: data entry, filing, and copying.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate would have these qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (soon-to-be graduates are invited to apply)
- Administrative experience
- Interest in research
- Organized with strong attention to detail (e.g., to maintain and track data)
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and experience interacting with professionals in a variety of roles
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite; MS Excel in particular
- Willingness to work against tight deadlines in a team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and priorities as part of a team
- Some knowledge of K-12 school organizations/environments
- Experience with constructing and managing online surveys, but training will be provided
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and welcoming work environment
