Responsibilities
San Marcos Treatment Center, operation for over 80 years and located on 63 acres in the Texas hill country, is known nationwide with programming for children and adolescents in a residential treatment setting.
As a member of the clinical team, this position is responbsible and accountable for providing direct recreation therapy healthcare services to adolescents with menatl illness in residential treatment programs.
- Provides and implements a recreational assessment on each patient
- Provides an assortment of leisure activities
- Assists patients in developing an understanding of benefits of ongoing health and fitness. Assists patients to improve social interaction, coping skills, problem solving skills, anger management skills, and any skills that relates to address the functioning of the human domains to increase overall quality of life.
- Works with treatment team to develop and implement therapeutic recreation programs
- Maintains recreational areas and equipment
- Completes documentation accurately and timely
- Maintains observation of patients and shares appropriate information with manager. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreational Therapy required.
- Certified Recreational Therapist (CTRS) required.
- Two (2) years’ experience providing Recreation/Activities Therapy, preferred. Minimum of two (2) years in a psychiatric setting with adolescents and child population, preferred.
- Working knowledge of recreational therapy programming. Effective oral and written communication skill.
- Extensive sitting, standing, walking, reading, lifting over (50 lbs.) pounds and participation in active physical recreational program.
