Job Summary
The Recreation Supervisor – Early Childhood and Youth Programs will provide program management, program development and supervisory oversight for planning, directing, evaluating, and staffing for Early Childhood and Youth programs including but not limited to: preschool, recreation, performing arts, camps, and special events.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Design, develop, coordinate, and monitor the implementation of Early Childhood and Youth programs including but not limited to: preschool, recreation, performing arts, camps, and special events.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of planned or assigned programs and events.
- Recruit, select, hire, train, supervise and evaluate part-time and seasonal staff and volunteers; compile and review all necessary paperwork; monitor and approve staff work hours and overtime expenditures; continuously develop staff by providing feedback.
- Schedule program staff meetings to include opportunities for feedback, questions and training.
- Monitor and evaluate program performance to include program site visits, enrollment trends, patron wants and needs, and cost/profit margin with a focus on continued growth and development, while ensuring competitive program pricing.
- Work with Park District NSSRA liaison to ensure evaluation of participants as requested and 1:1 staffing needs are met
- Create and implement new program and event offerings to meet department and Division goals
- Prepare and monitor the budget for areas of program responsibility.
- Develop procedures for program, facility and staff and volunteers as needed.
- Lead/Facilitate Programs and events as needed.
- Manage program and/or event contracts/agreements based on need with program oversight.
- Develop and coordinate special events; assist in planning and/or attend department or District events as required.
- Work with support staff to shop for/order supplies for program areas; manage and track supply inventory.
- Initiate, and collaborate with Manager and Marketing and Communications Team with the promotion and marketing of programs.
- Foster and maintain effective professional working relationships with the general public, co-workers and community partners.
Compensation and Hours
The anticipated starting salary is $58,000+, depending on qualifications. This is a full-time position. Hours fluctuate based on program/event needs; evenings, weekends and/or holiday work will apply.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in recreation management or related field.
- At least one (1) to three (3) years of progressive recreational programming.
- Experience working with early childhood programs and/or afterschool care programs.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to critically, problem solve and work both independently and collaboratively

Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work is performed mainly in an office setting. May occasionally work outdoors in warm or cold temperatures for short periods of time.
