We are now hiring for a full-time Recess Coordinator to join our Southeast team!
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Manages one recess program within Chicago Public Schools
- Trains and supervises Recess Monitors
- Participates in the development of lesson planning and recess activities with Recess Monitors.
- Works in collaboration with Resource Coordinator, school administration, teachers, school personnel, and outside organizations, to coordinate activities and resolve issues and conflicts.
- May participate in the recruitment and selection of new support staff.
- Maintains a variety of records and reports pertaining to the operation of the program.
- Reports disciplinary and other concerns to school administration.
- Supervises students during recess and maintains a harmonious atmosphere by encouraging peaceful resolution of conflicts.
- Insures students are orderly and acting appropriately.
- Interacts with students to maintain order and provide assistance as needed.
- Oversees responsibility for play equipment.
- Directs movement of student to and from playground, lunchroom, and classrooms in a safe and organized manner.
- Assess playground for security and conditions of equipment and reports concerns to the lead recess monitor or school personnel.
- Provides assistance for student requiring additional guidance.
- Maintains a safe environment for students at all times.
- Responds to emergency situations (injured students, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Evaluates student injuries, determines course of action, performs minor first aid, and completes required paperwork in compliance with Chicago Public Schools and Metropolitan Family Services.
- Complies with Chicago Public Schools and Metropolitan Family Services polices; adheres to Chicago Recess and Readiness Guidelines.
- Professionally represents Chicago Public Schools and Metropolitan Family Services in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
- Attend staff meetings and other recess-related meetings as scheduled.
- Attends work regularly and is punctual.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent, required.
- Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Social Work, or related field, preferred.
- 2 or more years experience creating structured, school-based recreational programming for youth, required.
- Excellent verbal and written skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel, agency staff, parents and community partners
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- First Aid & CPR Certification
- Mist be able to pass Criminal Background Checks and Fingerprinting
- Must complete TB test.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- MFS staff are required to provide proof of vaccination or have an approved Medical exemption prior to starting employment. If an approved Medical exemption is obtained, weekly testing is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and stand for sustained periods of time, frequently talk, hear, use hands and fingers to feel, handle and operate objects or controls, and occasionally stand, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel and crouch.
- The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing and viewing a computer terminal.
- The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
SALARY:
- Compensation is commensurate with years of related experience, position requirements, and candidate qualifications. The average salary for the position is $41,200.
