Job description
Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource base located in Nevada. It is the newest mine in Kinross’ portfolio and was acquired in January 2016.
Summary
Essential Functions
- Performs pre-shift inspections, including checking for any mechanical or structural problems and documenting these using the pre-shift inspection report.
- Assists field mechanics with repairs when necessary. Performs maintenance work when possible.
- Operate RC drill and truck, safely and cost effectively.
- Operates trucks equipped with air brakes and performs air brake test daily
- Collars and drills holes to correct depth and location, changing wear components as necessary.
- Drill vertical and angled holes properly fill out drill reports.
- Accurately complete pre operation reports and drill reports, be proficient in RC drilling.
- Works with mine site supervision to create and maintain RC drilling standard operation procedures.
- Observes all required ‘Permit to Work’ requirements.
- Train and lead RC drilling helpers.
- Performing other duties as required.
- Responsible for the recovery, bagging, and transport of samples to the Core Shed.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
- Prior RC drilling experience preferred.
- Prior small equipment experience preferred.
- Able to operate trucks equipped with air brakes and performs air brake test daily.
- Able to operate back hoe/forklift.
- Must be able to work within precise parameters, know and follow all policies and procedures specific to the drilling program. Required to obtain High Risk Activity qualifications for Heat Work, Work at Heights, and Excavation work.
- Must be cognizant of the condition of the surrounding work area and the performance of the machine in order to avoid dangerous situations and maintain good working condition of machinery.
- Must possess good math skills.
- Consistently meet or exceed historic RC drilling performance.
- Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis.
- Requires valid driver’s license.

- Adheres to all safety and environmental considerations.
- Have a strong commitment to safe working practices.
- Wears Personal Protective Equipment at all times while in the production environment.
- Is alert and observes, corrects, and reports unsafe conditions.
- Follows operating procedures and complies with all regulatory requirements.
- Completes ‘Permit to Work’ training for: Lifting and rigging, Hot works, and Excavation/Digging.
