Overview:
  • The R&D and Maintenance Technician will be responsible for a variety of activities focused on materials and process water testing; product development and improvement; plant and manufacturing equipment repair and maintenance; installation of new manufacturing equipment and identifying and implementing plant safety improvements. The R&D and Maintenance Technician will work independently on some projects and as a team member with co-workers on other projects.
Responsibilities:
  • Complete doctor blade and general material testing activities including:
    • Prepare material samples for testing.
    • Complete wear testing, flexural testing, hardness testing and other test programs as needed.
    • Perform data analysis and generate test reports using Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Conduct tests on customer’s process water samples to determine particle concentration and size, and then generate a results report. The results of this report will be used by the Applications group to specify and size filtration technologies.
  • Assemble R&D test apparatus and prototype equipment. Complete prototype testing as required for new product development.
  • Participate in the field installation and testing of prototypes (new products). In some cases, the R&D and Maintenance Technician will lead the installation and testing of new products at a customer site.
  • Design new products and product improvements utilizing SolidWorks 3D modeling software. Work directly with vendors in selecting purchased components.
    • Support manufacturing, purchasing, and other departments during the transition of new products from R&D to the production mode.


    • Repair and maintain manufacturing and plant equipment. Must be available to work overtime hours and weekends when needed.

    • Participate in the planning, preparation, and installation of new manufacturing equipment.

    • Create manufacturing equipment documentation including machine set-up and operational instructions; maintenance procedure instructions; and Lockout/Tagout procedures for new equipment and existing equipment.

    • Conduct periodic safety inspections on manufacturing equipment. Recommend, and then implement safety improvements.

    • Participate in the assembly and shop check-out of customer ordered equipment when needed.

    • Travel to customer sites to perform service work when needed.

    • Maintain the R&D lab area in a safe and orderly condition.

    • Observes safe practices and all company policies.

    • Performs other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in a technical field or significant related work experience.
  • Must be experienced and knowledgeable in the safe use of hand and power tools.
  • Must be experienced in using basic machine shop measurement tools.
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications preferred.
  • Experience with SolidWorks 3D Modeling software a plus
