The Project Manager (PM) leads a focused strategic project of the non-infectious disease (NID) programs department. The PM is responsible for a time-bound project that is conducted in collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), donors, and other internal and external partners. The PM combines strong technical skills, content area expertise, management, and leadership with an entrepreneurial and mission-driven approach.
The Project Manager will oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of a project to support Medical Examiner and Coroners (MEC) offices in improving their capacity to conduct public health monitoring and surveillance. The Project Manager will leverage their expertise working in public health at the state, local, or national level to manage the day-to-day activities for this project. This project will establish a Medicolegal Death Investigation (MDI) Implementers’ Workgroup to support Medical Examiner and Coroners (MEC) offices and their data partners in exploring and testing data modernization strategies. This work will advance improvements in MECs data infrastructure and capacity to electronically share data with state and national death reporting systems.
The ideal candidate will bring expertise managing and leading complex, fast-paced, public health projects. They may also have experience working with MECs, be knowledgeable about organizations in the public health informatics landscape and be savvy about navigating some of the common challenges encountered in data integration projects, particularly when it comes to vital records.
This position is grant-funded through July 31, 2023.
Qualifications and Necessary Skills
1. Master's degree in public health, public or healthcare administration, or other related field from an accredited college or university.
2. Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in project management with experience in facilitation of learning collaboratives or communities of practice related to public health data.
3. Experience in vital records, healthcare, medical examiner/coroner offices strongly preferred.
4. Understanding of electronic data use within public health, including the advantages and challenges associated with common data sources, systems, and work processes.
5. Demonstrated experience across all phases of project management, including initiation, planning, execution, performance monitoring, and project close-out.
6. Experience with resource planning/project management systems used to manage day-to-day activities such as project plans, budgets, and timelines.
7. Superior organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to meet deadlines, and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
8. Knowledge and skills needed to be effective in the public-private partnership, project, donor, and stakeholder environments.
9. Ability to represent the CDC Foundation and its partners, leading discussions and negotiations concerning project planning, implementation, and evaluation.
10. Excellent written communication skills with experience preparing, writing, and editing complex documents such as reports to donors and briefing documents for the CDC and other audiences.
11. Creativity, problem-solving, demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with others.
12. Ability to communicate verbally in a clear, positive manner with internal teams, external partners, and non-technical audiences, as appropriate.
13. Ability to engage with, listen to and learn from a broad range of people and organizations.
Responsibilities:
1. Manages initiative(s) for a project focused on vital records and informatics. May be required to concurrently manage more than one time-bound project to synergize work around a specific subject, practice area, and/or set of partners.
2. Formulate and/or implement project-related goals, objectives, strategies, and priorities to ensure consistency with organization, department, and division standard operating procedures.
3. Builds partnerships and provides leadership that ensures impactful, efficient, and effective project implementation.
4. Responsible for project planning, implementation, documentation, performance and impact monitoring, reporting, contracting, budgeting, and close out.
5. Oversee the work of subcontractors and ensure activities and deliverables adhere to the timeline and meet or exceed expectations.
6. Designs and facilitates technical, financial, strategic, and/or operational meetings focused on the project and represents the CDC Foundation at external meetings.
7. Collaborate with internal and external project teams to ensure tasks are clear, aligned and coordinated across all parties. This may include working with CDC Foundation field employees.
8. Travels as needed to represent the designated project and the CDC Foundation (up to 10 percent annually).
9. Participates in and/or leads special projects and other duties as assigned.
This position is eligible for a fully remote work arrangement for U.S. based candidates. Relocation expenses are not included.
