- Assists Program Coordinator with the day-to day overseeing of the preschool and afterschool programs.
- Assumes duties and responsibilities in the absence of the Program Coordinator.
- Provides childcare coverage in rooms to ensure appropriate ratios
- Helps schedule and conduct observations of teachers
- Develops, plans, and implements curriculum, lesson plans, and other educational programs ie Parent Teacher Conferences.
- Communicates effectively with students, parents, school administrators and other staff, including the ability to discuss topics which may be sensitive.
- Facilitates problem-solving, with a curious mind and critical thinking skills with children, families, and team members.
- Maintains a growth mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and personal/collective professional development.
- Demonstrates understanding of compliance with the center’s rules as well as state laws and regulations pertaining to a licensed preschool program.
- Plans, records and assists with in-service training.
- Leads and/or teaches various recreation activities when needed.
- Directly supervises recreation division employees, program participants and volunteers.
- Enforces rules pertaining to the overall health and safety of the participants.
- Prepares reports, statistics, and evaluations of programs.
- Assists with emergency procedures and building/field house evacuation.
- Inspects and recommends facility equipment repairs and improvements.
- Keeps accurate attendance records, safety logs, supplies and equipment inventories, food service logs, order supplies, preparing various reports and processing paperwork and entering data.
- Performs other duties and functions as assigned.
- Ability to plan, implement, supervise and evaluate recreational programs.
- Ability to deal positively and effectively with the general public and other staff and individual agencies or persons.
- Strong customer service and teamwork orientation.
- Ability to demonstrate competency and general operating knowledge of a personal computer, software, typewriter, telephone equipment, fax machine, adding and credit card machines, calculator, copiers, entry books, file cabinets, and pens and pencils.
- Knowledge of equipment needed for gymnasium use including, but not limited to, volleyball, gymnastics, nautilus, basketball, pre-school play equipment, divider curtains, gym equipment, tables and chairs, and sound communication systems.
- Ability to read manuals (safety, instructional, etc.) professional and technical journals, legal documents, newspapers, and encyclopedias Ability to understand these materials, and apply instruction and narrative as required.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.
- Ability to prepare work assignments, research issues summaries, letters and memorandum and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, dictation and style.
- Ability to give verbal direction to subordinates, communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.

NATURE OF WORK :
Under the direction of the Recreation Program Coordinator and/or his/her designee, this position is responsible for providing a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program in accordance with all policies and procedures. The Program Supervisor will be responsible for planning and implementing programs to teach young children. They must ensure the development and safety of these children in accordance with policies. The person will also provide preschool instruction; including planning and leading of games, small group projects and innovative activities for these children. May assist in the supervision of the preschool instructors, program assistants and volunteers working in the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Specific assignment will include some or all of the following)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF WORK
Must possess:
Sixty semester or 90 quarter hours of credit from an accredited college or university with 18 semester or 27 quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development from birth to age 6; or Two years (3120 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed day care center, 30 semester or 45 quarter hours of college credits with 10 semester or 15 quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development, and proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university until 2 years of college credit have been achieved. A total of 18 semester or 27 quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development is required to be obtained within the total 2 years of college credits.
Must be able and willing to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and Food Service Sanitation License within four months of employment and maintain them as a condition of employment.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities in the following areas:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK :
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in a variety of conditions.
Ability to lift and move objects up to 15 pounds without mechanical assistance.
SUPERVISION
Work is performed under the general direction of the Program Coordinator and the Recreation Manager as specific projects assignments and through general goals and objectives set by the department and overall City management. The employee is responsible for prioritizing problems or situations. Work is evaluated annually with respect to coordination duties, problem-solving ability, customer service, written and verbal communication skills, and performance in accordance with this classification standard.
