The Physical Security Analyst is responsible for assisting in the configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting of enterprise physical security systems hosted within Information Technology Services at Binghamton University. The Physical Security Analyst also assists with planning, organizing and implementing application-related projects, upgrades, and migrations of physical security systems.
This position will support day-to-day operations associated with physical security, including routine maintenance and technology troubleshooting-either by resolving issues directly or by engaging internal partners and vendors as appropriate. The Physical Security Analyst will work closely with the NYS University Police Department, Physical Facilities, Residential Life and other campus entities to provision physical security controls and systems for all new construction/renovation projects and life-safety technology-based solutions.
This position reports to the Assistant Director of Security, Infrastructure and Support (SIS) and requires availability for off-hours and on-call support.
In addition, the Physical Security Analyst will:
- Work in conjunction with the Security Infrastructure and Support group and other campus entities to identify, develop and evaluate implementation and operation of Genetec.
- Provide hardware/software/network support for Genetec Security Center (specifically the Video Management System (VMS), Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) and Access Control System (ACS) software).
- Generate documentation, identify, and perform configurations, construct test plans and procedures, produce and implement training plans and material, database administration, data analytics and data interoperability, data mining, middleware vendor relations and serve as the data lead for SIS.
- Implement, administer, and maintain physical security systems/technologies. This includes creating databases, reports, and conduct system back-ups. Debug and resolve issues (application, server, and/or DB) on a variety of OS combinations (Linux, Windows, Mac), server hardware and network topologies.
- Manage/configure/debug specialized endpoints (credential readers, digital surveillance cameras, biometric equipment, and wireless technologies).
- Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and leadership to identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend system modifications.
- Serve as an expert for physical security systems and technologies. Incorporate emergent security technologies for implementation based on objectives and business needs.
- Monitor security conditions and conduct analysis of data received from both external and internal sources and advise management and team on appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide technical direction for physical security related projects and technologies including but not limited to; video surveillance systems, access control systems, intrusion and detection/alarm systems, inherited attribute-based access control, and unification of physical security technologies.
- Set up and manage automated and custom reporting.
- Must be able to maintain data confidentiality and compliance with regulatory requirements (HIPAA, FERPA, PCI, etc.)

- Minimum of an Associate's degree in information technology, criminal justice, security management, or a related field.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose issues in system such as intrusion detection, access control, panic alarms and surveillance equipment.
- Familiarity in information technology concepts such as networking, system administration, database management.
- Strong communication, writing, documentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior management, security personnel, and contractors.
- Ability to interpret regulations and procedures and integrating them into policy.
- Possess strong attention to detail, problem solving skills, and excellent organizational skills. Ability to learn effectively, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines and impart these skills to colleagues.
- Work well under pressure and be able to work collegially and effectively as an individual or as part of a team.
- Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential material and information with suitable discretion.
- Ability to work with multiple constituencies within a culturally diverse environment.
- Effective problem solving, interpersonal, and multitasking skills.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in criminal justice, security management, or a related field.
- Experience (design, set-up, management) with Genetec life safety system.
- Experience working in an Operations Center dedicated to incident management and critical incident response.
- Experience with Information Security and Risk Management, Network Security and/or Telecommunications.
- Prior experience working with access control and/or digital surveillance systems as well as intrusion and mass-notification systems.
- Experience with log and access review, experience with SPLUNK is preferred.
- Knowledge or experience working within regulatory compliance frameworks such as NIST, PCI-DSS, FERPA, GLBA, HIPAA, DFARS, CMMC, ITAR.
- A credible, industry recognized physical security certification such as Physical Security Professional (PSP) or Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
- Knowledge of the methods and practices of security/life safety in a large and diverse environment.
- Familiarity with the latest physical security technologies such as camera analytics, drone technology, and critical incident response solutions.
- Experience with policy development.
- Experience with ITSM: in particular, experience with TeamDynamix.
- Experience with risk assessments.
- Experience with Data Use Agreements.
- Experience with CMMC self-assessments.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting building plans and schematics.
- Detailed knowledge of low voltage wiring, including code requirements, installations, running conduit, troubleshooting, and working with security system hardware.
- Experience in a university-based or a research technology environment.
- Experience working in a large complex academic organization.
This position would be eligible for a hybrid work location under the NYS approved remote work location agreement.
