Under the direction of a registered staff pharmacist, prepares routine orders for unit dose dispensing, prepackaged pharmaceuticals, prepared intravenous solution for dispensing, and performs related duties as assigned by the pharmacist. Responsible for restocking crash carts accurately and efficiently following established policies for final pharmacist’s check. Pharmacy technicians work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Qualifications

Minimum: High School Graduate or equivalent

Minimum: 3 years hospital experience. IV Certified at least 2 years.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Two years of hospital experience.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Must have passed the national PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) exam and be certified as a CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician). Must be registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Accredited training in sterile products preparation.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Proficient in 2 of 5 following pharmacy positions: 1) OR 2) purchasing 3) Medication Reconciliation 4) M1 duties or 5) Chemo experience at least 1 year or equivalent from other facilities.
