Job description

Physicians to Children is seeking a pediatric phlebotomist to join our fast-paced laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Assist the physicians and interact with children and caregivers.
• Appropriately identify patients prior to collections.
• Perform capillary and venous blood collections from infants, children, and young adults using appropriate devices and technique.
• Answer questions and provide instructions for patient collected samples.
• Perform and report waived laboratory testing.
• Participate in proficiency testing in rotation with other laboratory staff.
• Perform quality control and maintenance on all laboratory systems according to lab policies.
• Adhere to Universal Precautions, Physicians to Children’s Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan and Hazardous Communications Plan.
• Know the locations of manuals and SDS sheets.
• Know the location of fire and emergency equipment and demonstrate knowledge of responsibilities in an emergency.
• Adhere to all policies and procedures as described in the Lab Procedure Manual.

Skills:

• Proven experience as a Phlebotomist or Phlebotomy Technician
• Understanding of proper patient identification and specimen collection methods
• Knowledge of appropriate handing of samples
• Proficient with computer and health record systems
• Experience with waived laboratory testing preferred
• Attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills
• Diploma/certification in Phlebotomy or extensive on the job training

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $31,000.00 per year
