Under the general supervision of the Head Men's Basketball Coach and the Sport Administrator for Men's Basketball, independently coordinates a variety of programmatic functions for the operations of the Men's Basketball Program. In conjunction with the sport administrator, acts as a primary interface with Sun Devil Athletics (SDA) departmental units and Men's Basketball, ensuring that goals and objectives are met with strict adherence to NCAA and PAC 12 rules and regulations, as well as policies and procedures of the department, the University, and the Arizona Board of Regents.

Essential Duties

  • Coordinates all administrative issues related to the program, serving as point person for housing, meals, academics, walk-on tryouts, sports information, compliance, NCAA Clearinghouse, and financial services, ensuring a hassle-free transition. Provides oversight for admission, orientations, and housing applications.
  • Organizes team travel for the program, scheduling meals, practice times, and flights and booking hotels for each road game.
  • Communicates the program's daily schedule to all relevant parties, making sure that everyone is aware of daily events and that the program runs smoothly. Responsibilities include providing daily schedules that indicate the daily academic liaison, the practice schedule coordinator, providing basketball activities time sheets.
  • Serves as liaison to all visitors at practice and skill instruction, representing the team and coaching staff to recruits, donors, alumni, friends, and families.
  • Ensures that game tickets are distributed to friends and families of the program within the parameters of NCAA rules, recognizing the program's YIPs.
  • Schedules Life skill events for the players, setting up community service opportunities and informational seminars designed to educate and empower our players.
  • Coordinates players' services to include communication of significant dates to families, travel schedules indicating breaks and holidays, housing/meals/ training table schedules, parking, etc.
  • Coordinates players' financial services to include information regarding the Pell Grant, student opportunity fund, student assistant fund, international tax information, and whether there is any money owed and if so how to handle it.
  • Ensures student athlete adherence to the dress code for games, travel, and special events.
  • Oversees program budget, ensuring adherence to its distribution and expenses allowed.
  • Coordinates activities to include Senior Night, Banquet, and other Special Events.
  • May supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Develops itineraries for official and unofficial visits.
  • Assists in the management of student-office workers and student-managers.
  • Assists with maintaining student-athlete relationships, to assist in class check-ins, and room check-ins.
  • Operates video technology, scoreboard and other evaluative systems of student-athletes during practice.
  • Assists with the coordination of student athletes' services to include communication of significant dates to families, travel schedules indicating breaks and holidays, housing/meals/ training table schedules, parking, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three (3) years of experience in the program of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree in a business related field.
  • Evidence of a Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in a sports or sports/athletics enterprise with a well demonstrated ability to make decisions in an extremely fast-paced working environment.
  • Experience in managing and/or coordinating multi-faceted organizational objectives.
  • Experience in overseeing and orchestrating large group interactions.
  • Experience in creating annual/seasonal calendar timelines and coordinate team scheduling.
  • Experience in handling operations and logistics.
  • Ability to optimize organizational efficiency and inter-department communications.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues and information with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all constituencies of the department and the University.
  • Demonstrate a level of competency in communication skills.
  • Experience with athletic merchandising and equipment.
  • Experience with Concur.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and familiarity with the inner workings of an NCAA Division 1 Men's basketball program.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse (60%); required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work (20%).
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds (20%).
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • May be required to travel with team.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment including, but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
  • May help supervise student managers and graduate assistants.
  • General supervision received by the Head Men's Basketball Coach and the Sport Administrator for Men's Basketball, as well as by the Coordinator, Men’s Basketball Operations (i.e. Director of Operations).
  • May be required to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
