Nutrition Technician/Dietary Aide

Job Type: Full time, including weekends, on-site

Required Education: Associate’s Degree

Required Experience: Minimum one (1) year

Provides support to Nutrition Team operations, nutritional patient care, and general support to patient programming as directed by Dietary Manager.

Job Duties:

• Facilitate all grocery shopping and maintenance of kitchen inventory
• Assist in creation of program menus that will optimize physical and mental health of patients
• Provide meal and snack supervision & meal coaching
• Model and encourage patients to engage in healthy, balanced eating per RD team philosophy
• Observe patient dietary behaviors and report progress to RD, therapists, and/or MD as needed
• Assist Dietary Manager with completion of monthly budget reconciliation as needed
• Staff that hold the DTR certification may be asked to complete the following individual patient care activities: nutrition education, collection of dietary history or 24-hour recall
• Assist with and/or conduct nutrition-based educational groups on various relevant topics as needed
• Utilize Electronic Medical Record to complete clinical documentation following group and meal supervision
• Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and eating areas consistent with DOH and other regulatory body requirements
• Conduct dishwashing duties and oversee kitchen clean-up following patient meals
• Carry out food preparation tasks such as slicing, peeling and plating meal items and serveware
• Supervise patients during non-therapeutic activities as needed
• Support patient medical needs including but not limited to: facilitation of patient OTC/prescribed medication self-administration, take/record vitals, etc.
• Provide support to the Medical and Clinical team as needed; use/follow behavioral intervention designed by therapy staff for effective patient supervision/management

Requirements:

• Associate’s Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field required; Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred
• Minimum one (1) year experience as a Diet Technician, Dietary Aide, or Kitchen Aide in a professional food service setting
• Must possess current and active WA State Food Worker’s Card
• Diet Tech Certification (DTR) highly preferred
• Experience working in, or an interest in pursuing a healthcare work environment with direct mental health patient interaction
• Experience with or interest in a non-diet and weight inclusive approach to nutrition care
• Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check
