Job description
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or Technical (Military/Trade School) license or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or critical work environment with an understanding of construction and commissioning processes, and structural, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
  • 4+ years of experience with electrical and Nondestructive Testing best practices, processes, tools, and metrics with the ability to implement new methodologies for new construction, retrofits, and special projects.
  • Experience working in an environment under NFPA 70E Guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships.
  • Must meet and maintain all eligibility requirements to drive a company service vehicle, including but not limited to: must have a valid driver's license issued by the state in which they reside.

We are currently seeking a Nondestructive Testing Engineer to supervise our Technicians and serve as a technical resource within Amazon data centers.

The ideal candidate will possess the ability to design, develop, and deploy innovative solutions to address operational challenges. This role requires both independent contribution as well as the ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams. The scope of projects will include but is not limited to the improvement of electrical, mechanical, fire detection, and building automation systems. A fundamental understanding of these systems is required, as the individual will be expected to identify areas for improvement as well as act on data provided from other teams and organizations.

As the Nondestructive Testing Technician, you are expected to oversee medium sized projects from conception to completion. These will involve large amounts of independent work as well as collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. In the Nondestructive Testing Technician role, you are expected to delight the customer by building trust, delivering on key milestones, and acting as a good steward by overseeing the procurement and upkeep of fleet vehicles, equipment, and tools. Further to this, the Lead is expected to train and support all Nondestructive Testing Technicians on their team.

Above all else, you will drive a culture of safety and security while maintaining a focus on availability. The body of work the technicians you are responsible for has to be done to very strict standards and it is your responsibility to ensure seamless execution.

Responsibilities:
  • Safety Ambassador responsible for driving a culture of safety and promoting a safe working environment for all executing work under your watch.
  • Remain cognizant of, and act in compliance with, all security protocols. Motivate others to do the same.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to schedule and oversee the day-to-day execution of Nondestructive Testing preventative maintenance across your assigned fleet of data centers.
  • Act as an escalation point for all safety, security and facilities-related issues as it relates to your assigned work, escalating to your Manager as required.
  • Support existing, create, and deploy new standard practices for Nondestructive Testing.
  • Provide training and guidance to Nondestructive Testing Technicians.
  • Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Interact with engineers, technicians, project managers and management on a daily basis.
  • Work with engineers to develop detailed and creative solutions to complex problems, while keeping a watchful eye on timelines and costs.
  • Oversee projects and provide solutions for root causes of facility issues.

Physical Requirements:
  • Walk job sites in uneven terrain.
  • Work at heights and from ladders.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; and participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
  • Coordinate body movements when using tools or equipment.
  • Reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance.
  • Bend or twist the body into unusual positions while working.
  • Perform physical tasks all day without becoming overly tired.
  • Use hands to manipulate small wires and objects.
  • Push or pull heavy objects into position.
  • Work in a noisy environment.
  • Work at depths, such as under raised floors.

  • Supervising teams in a data center critical operations environment.
  • The ability to evaluate new technology; deploy and maintain new services.
  • High level of competence in critical equipment support.
  • The ability to analyze competing projects, assess technical risk, and communicate impact to the business
  • Possess a level I or II NDT Certification (ASNT, PCN, NAS-410) and/or have 2+ years of relevant work experience acting as a level I or II individual.
  • Ability to influence and motivate others to action.
  • Organized self-starter with quantitative analytic abilities and proven problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Shows good judgment and instincts in decision-making.
  • Ability to prioritize in a complex, fast-paced environment.
