Job Description

Primary Function of Position:

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. produces the da Vinci® Surgical System, a minimally invasive robotic surgery system that uses highly complex mechanics, replaceable instruments and accessories, and enhanced three-dimensional visualization to extend surgical technique and precision beyond the limits of the human hand. The Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting Service readiness for all incoming new products and the transfer of product to the sustaining team. This position will work closely with the engineering teams in the assembly, documentation, and testing of new product concepts. This person is directly responsible for executing test protocols, documenting results, evaluating new manufacturing process instructions, and providing feedback to engineering and service manufacturing. In addition, the person will assist with developing and maintaining tooling, fixtures, and a clean, well-organized workspace. A strong sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required as well as a commitment to high product quality.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• RMA line support for FA, Repair, and Final Test of products.
• Use hand tools to disassemble, assemble, and repair mechanical and electrical components.
• Design, build, test, and provide guidance on development of test fixtures and engineering prototypes.
• Provide process feedback to the engineering, service, and training teams.
• Assist with developing and updating Service RMA procedures.
• Support IQ/OQ/PQ processes and re-validation of equipment, fixtures, and tooling.
• Support training of service operations technicians within mechanical and electronic assemblies.
• Maintain 5S standards in assigned work areas.
• Provide Manufacturing Systems Production support.

Qualifications

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

• Minimum BS in Engineering or STEM strongly preferred with no experience necessary, or minimum High School diploma (or equivalent) and AS in Engineering or STEM with a minimum 1 year of experience.
  • Education requirement may be waived for internal candidates with 5+ years of experience with Intuitive.
• Effective use of troubleshooting and measurement equipment like oscilloscopes, multi-meters, function generators, test platforms.
• Familiarity with hand tools and handling techniques for delicate electrical and mechanical components.
• Must have good communication and documentation skills.
• Must have problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Self-starter and motivated to work in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Prefer proficiency in AutoCAD or SolidWorks and knowledge of GD&T.
• Prefer experience with Agile and SAP.
• Prefer knowledge of GMP, GDP, & Quality Systems Regulations.
• Prefer familiarity with machining practices for components or fixture modification.
• Ability to perform repetitious duties while standing/sitting for long periods of time
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• An Engineering Technician will need to potentially travel up to 10% of the time.

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.

Base Salary Range Region 1:$65,500 - $88,700
Base Salary Range Region 2: $55,700 - $75,300
