Responsible for planning, implementation, and support of Local (LAN) and Wide Area Networks (WAN), physical network hardware, network management, system-to-system communication, LAN/WAN software, operating systems, general network hardware maintenance and software, capacity planning, and security. The primary areas of responsibility are the planning, implementation, support and maintenance of the physical network, overall network management, system-to-system communication, LAN software, general network/hardware maintenance and support of client needs. Incumbent uses own judgement and initiative in solving problems and performing technical tasks of a low degree of complexity. Incumbent will in general spend a great deal of time advising superior on problems, working very close with clients, and may have a definite impact of future systems. Perform all other duties as assigned by Manager of Network and Communication Services.1. Network Monitoring/Security/Wiring/Documentation. Network management software. Responsible for checking management station at least once a day to make sure all devices are up and running and that no error messages are occurring. Responsible for updating management station when adding additional devices on the network. Responsible for monitoring the traffic on the network and optimizing performance when necessary. Also need to set thresholds within the network management station which, if reached, will then page the Networking team. Establish security profiles, which allow clients to perform their function within reasonable constraints. Responsible for securing equipment and conducting a security audit at least once a year. Responsible for checking after job is completed. Responsible for coordinating with Client Department and Client Analyst Team where all devices will be located and making sure subcontractor gets a copy of blueprint with locations marked. Responsible for engineering, implementation, and ongoing support for network voice over IP system and equipment. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining all Telecommunication closets. At least once a week all hospital closets need to be walked through and checked. Responsible for keeping an inventory of all equipment in closets along with number of ports available on the switches and number of ports on punch down. At least once a month all WAN sites and outside buildings need to have their closets walked through and checked. Develops and maintains a Disaster Recovery Plan. Provide backup and recovery procedures.
2. Hardware and Software Assessment/Installation/Troubleshooting Determine hardware and system functional requirements. Based upon system design parameters, the analyst must evaluate hardware alternatives and recommend hardware components to satisfy the requirement and review functional requirements to determine the network topology, operating systems, protocols and database structures to satisfy the need. Based upon the requirements the analyst must perform preliminary design to determine network segmentation, segmentation traffic, segmentation impact analysis, port availability, router requirements, server requirements, operating system requirements, database topology and language requirements and workstation requirements. From the preliminary design findings, the manager must perform analysis, development and documentation of the proposed solution. Following this the manager must create and test the environment from a verification and validation standpoint. Resolves hardware malfunctions. Oversees hardware malfunctions by correcting situation with in-house resource, if possible, or notifying and dispatching hardware vendors to rectify problem and/or perform in accordance with maintenance agreements. Maintains an accurate inventory of hardware, depicting hardware type, location, date of purchase, serial number, and SRH fixed asset number. Loads applications and data file to LAN. Configures network for optimal efficiency. Maintains accurate records as to port and hub usage (who is connected to which node) and availability of nodes on LAN for potential use. LAN/MAN/WAN equipment. Responsible for managing all edge and core devices installed at the hospital, remote buildings, and WAN sites. Responsible for assisting Manager of Network Services with the core devices, RAS/VPN, and firewalls.
3. Plans, schedules and coordinates activities. As new services are added, the analyst must analyze the network segmentation traffic, determine the form and type of information to be routed, determine the protocols to use to route the information, analyze server configurations to determine compatibility, create working models and test the various alternatives and modify them in accordance. Exercise discretion and independent judgement, determine the nature of the problem, perform logical problem solving and information analysis. When installing new products or correcting issues the analyst must exercise discretion and independent judgement in determining the nature of the requirement or problem, determine the logical approach necessary to satisfy the requirement, and perform analysis on the type and quantity of information needed for the requirement. Provides high quality support services. Provides high quality customer support to internal and external customers. Provide and work with clients in resolving issues, proposing and implementing solutions sets for automated systems.
4. Responds in a positive manner to requests to participate in special projects. Manages in a successful manner regular assignments along with additional requirements of working on special projects. Documents all work and procedures associated with special projects in accordance with IT policies.
5. Follows attire and appearance procedures. Follows established hospital and/or departmental procedures for dress, personal hygiene, and ID badges, recognizing that proper appearance assists in maintaining a professional image and authority. Adheres to hospital/departmental policies. Adheres to hospital/department work schedule, and reports to work as scheduled. Prepares a status report each week to Manager, summarizing status each week, activities, events, milestones, issues and updating associated project schedules.
6. Communicates in a positive, courteous and helpful way. Follows the appropriate lines of communication in bringing problems or concerns to Department head and Administration. Interacts in a positive way with co-workers and supervisors. Communicates and listens in an effective manner.
7. Acknowledges requests and follows through in an acceptable time frame. Interacts in a positive and courteous manner with: Physicians, patients, families and guests. Provides assistance and guidance as necessary. Is knowledgeable of Hospital programs and services. Communicates related information when appropriate and/or refers guests to source of needed information. Maintains confidentiality of work-related information. Uses the appropriate forms to document guest relation’s issues.
8. Stores all confidential information in a secure manner while in use and returns or disposes of in manner according with IT/Organizational policy/procedure.
9. Responds to questions and problems from departments by providing assistance and representing the department in a positive manner at all times. Communicates in an effective manner with other IT employees for informational and problem-solving issues.
Associate degree in computer science, Management Information Systems or equivalent two (2) years of experience Minimum requirements include an associate degree in computer science, Management Information Systems or equivalent two (2) years of experience. Strong analytical and problem-solving experience required. Must have the ability to communicate in an effective manner and interact with different levels of administration and management, with all IT personnel, and with all departmental clients. Must possess knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP, LANS and WANS, network architectures, general network management, troubleshooting, and support. Knowledge of the OSI model, bridges, routers, terminal servers, switches, sub-networking, TCP/IP protocols and emulation packages. NT network operating system software, and 10/100 wiring standards and knowledge of CISCO networking equipment preferred. Must be able to handle pressure situations. Must be able to learn new environments and keep up with development in the field of communications technology and networking. On call is required for all Network issues that can’t be handled otherwise. May be required to work evenings and weekends as the workload demands. Lifting Requirement: Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
