POSITION: College Career Specialist
LOCATION: Weaver High School
REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of College & Career Readiness
POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Director of College & Career Readiness
develops and implements college career services for all students, and assists educational staff as needed in the provision of related services to all students.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops, implements, and administers the school to career program utilizing the developmental guidance model.
2. Develops and implements the Job Shadow, Mentor and Student Internship program. Students will be placed in unpaid internships at non-profit organizations.
3. Coordinates school to career activities, such as school-based learning, work-based learning, and connecting activities.
4. Offers technical assistance and support to subject area teachers in the integration of School to Career concepts in to subject areas.
5. Co-teaches and offers instruction to all students through seminars and workshops.
6. Develops a working model for the instruction of Career Education within the four by four block schedule.
7. Offers individual and group counseling to students with regards to academic performance, present opportunities, and future career plans.
8. Develops and administers a career education and information center; the videos and literary library must be focused on numerous options for students.
9. Responsible for keeping up-to-date with the usage of Knowledge of School to Career computer software, and directly related books and materials.
10. Serves as liaison between school and community agencies, including Hartford school district, social service agencies, and business partners on issues related to career services.
11. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with business and community partners to foster program collaborations.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field is required.
2. Working knowledge of the Hartford community, for both public and private sectors is essential.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of local university and career fairs, including private sector staffing and recruiting departments.
4. Demonstrated ability and knowledge of college/job search skills and career related information.
5. Demonstrated experience in college/career related field and developmental guiding concepts preferred.
6. Customer service orientation, flexibility and ability to make presentations to and work effectively with diverse groups within and outside of the school building.
7. Excellent organizational skills are required.
8. Ability to work under stress and within time constraints.
9. Ability and willingness to work beyond the regular school day (evenings/weekends) as needed.

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month work year. Salary in accordance with Hartford Educational Support Personnel Grid: A490: ($45,276-$53,697) 2017-2019.
